Job Description
Drafting Manager (Ground Storage Tanks) - Ground Division
Job Summary:
Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of drafters and other employees working on design projects. Establishes deadlines, develops goals, and determines production standards for the department. Analyzes data and reviews drawings and plans to ensure quality of work and project feasibility. The role maintains a primary focus on shop drawing production and fabrication documentation for welded steel ground storage tanks.
Job Duties:
• Develop and maintain processes, procedures, and standards to improve customer service and minimize project costs for all project stakeholders (Owner, Engineer, and Contractor)
• Create, develop, and manage improvements to drafting standards and shop drawing submittal packages
• Develop or maintain metrics to objectively gauge efficiency, productivity, quality, and project stakeholder satisfaction
• Strategic planning, including identifying "value-added" initiatives
• Manage multiple resources, both internal and external, working on projects / assignments concurrently
• Manage overtime of staff for shop drawing production, shop drawing developments, and shop drawing improvements to facilitate the timely completion of projects
• Maintain a high level of communication and flow of information within the Department, including expectations, deadlines, and reporting requirements
• Promote open and ongoing communications between various departments, clients, and external personnel
• Provide individual subordinate development and performance monitoring
• Develop, maintain, and support departmental initiatives and related budgets, inclusive of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to determine how AI can best support the organization at all levels
• Oversee the preparation and review of shop drawings and fabrication packages for welded steel ground storage tanks
• Review and approve drawings prior to release to clients or internal production teams
• Manage revision control and drawing record-keeping across active projects
• Coordinate drawing schedules and drawing releases with project managers, fabrication, and field operations

Qualifications:
• Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD or similar drafting software is required
• A technical understanding of storage tanks, including experience with the tools needed in the drafting/design environment (AutoCAD 2D & 3D), is strongly preferred
• Familiarity with welded steel ground storage tank fabrication; knowledge of AWWA D100 and API 650 is a strong plus
• Understanding of AI and implementation of all AI tools available to advance department
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work with all levels of management and employees, as a team and individually
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Strong project coordination, planning, and management skills
• Effective analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate problems from various perspectives and formulate recommendations
• Self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing technologies, including AI
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to organize and prioritize daily work schedules and objectives, confidentially, for internal and external resources
• Familiarity with tank specifications, standards, and recommended practices
• Familiarity with federal and state regulations and agencies
