Job description

Stocker Responsibilities, Job duties, and tasks:
  • As a stocker, your job will entail more than just putting products on the shelf. You are the โ€œgo-toโ€ person for customer service.ย 
  • Cashiers may call you for assistance and customers will come to you with various needs and questions.ย 
  • It is your job to see that all their liquor store needs are met.

Job Requirements:
Customer Service
  • Your main focus should always be the customer.
  • Every customer you pass while on the floor should be asked if they need assistance.
  • You will be locating specific products and even informing them about specific items, and also making recommendations.

Stocking:
  • Keeping the shelves full, faced, and looking presentable is one of your most important duties.ย 
  • You will make a list of products that you could fit an entire case of on the shelf, then you will pull the cases from the basement and bring them upstairs to the main floor using the conveyor belt or the elevator.ย 
  • Re-usable boxes will be brought up to the cashier stations.ย 
  • Each case could weigh up to 60 pounds and could be lifted 1000 times or more each day.ย 
  • Stockers twist at the waist, elbows, wrists, and shoulders.ย 
  • You are also required to bend at the knees, especially when lifting cases.ย 
  • You will be using a hand truck to move cases where they need to go.ย 
  • Stockers stand for their entire shift.

Other Areas:
As a stocker, you will be required to check on other areas and stock when necessary. These include the wine cooler, wine cellar, soda coolers, mixer aisle and clearance area. All of these areas need to be stocked at least one time every shift.
Stock Rotation:
Every case you stock should be put on the shelf with the oldest bottles in front of the new ones. Many products, especially in the boxed wine section, have expiration dates and extra care must be taken to be sure that expired products are in front.
The Kiosks:
  • The kiosks have many uses and some basic computer knowledge is required.ย 
  • You will primarily use the kiosks to look up an itemโ€™s location, check inventory, check to price, and print tags.ย 
  • You will be looking at a screen that may be stressful for your eyes.

You are also required to check email at a minimum twice a day. Email is used to communicate with customers and fellow staff.
Other Duties:
  • As you are stocking shelves and periodically throughout the day, the shelves need to be fronted and faced.
  • This means making sure all the bottles are straight and pulled to the front of the shelf with labels facing out.ย 
  • A neat and organized presentation is always more inviting to the customer.

Breakage
On occasion, a bottle may break. The correct breakage procedures must be followed. Sweep up glass and mop up liquids first. Then the necessary paperwork is to be filled out and given to the receiving team.
