A Stewardship Manager is responsible for maintaining and strengthening relationships with donors, supporters, or stakeholders to ensure long-term engagement and funding. They develop and implement stewardship strategies, oversee donor recognition programs, and communicate impact through reports and events. Their role often involves coordinating with fundraising teams, managing donor databases, and creating personalized outreach efforts. The goal of a Stewardship Manager is to foster trust, appreciation, and continued support from key contributors.
A Stewardship Manager’s daily responsibilities often include drafting donor communications, planning and executing recognition events, and maintaining accurate records in donor management systems. They also coordinate with fundraisers, marketing teams, and organizational leadership to design stewardship strategies and ensure proper acknowledgment of donor contributions. Regular tasks may involve generating impact reports, responding to donor inquiries, and monitoring the fulfillment of donor intent. By supporting these essential activities, Stewardship Managers help sustain strong donor relationships and encourage continued support for their organization.
To thrive as a Stewardship Manager, you need strong relationship-building abilities, fundraising expertise, and knowledge of donor management, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with donor database systems (such as Raiser's Edge or Salesforce), reporting tools, and sometimes nonprofit certifications are advantageous. Exceptional communication, organizational skills, and an aptitude for strategic thinking help set top candidates apart. These skills enable Stewardship Managers to successfully foster donor loyalty, ensure proper recognition, and contribute to the overall fundraising goals of their organizations.
