Position Overview

Adena Regional Medical Center is seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician for a 13-week contract assignment in Chillicothe, Ohio.

The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for the complete processing and distribution of surgical instrumentation, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and delivery of instruments to the appropriate departments.

The successful candidate will rotate through various areas of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) on a daily basis while performing duties within the department's scope of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform decontamination and processing of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper condition.
  • Assemble and package surgical instrumentation according to established standards.
  • Perform sterilization and high-level disinfection procedures.
  • Follow manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU) and established infection prevention protocols.
  • Complete required documentation and quality assurance activities.
  • Prepare and pull case carts for scheduled surgical procedures.
  • Ensure surgical instruments and supplies are available when needed.
  • Deliver instrumentation and case carts to operating room areas.
  • Retrieve and transport instrumentation as required.
  • Answer department phones and assist with communication between SPD, the OR, and other departments.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams and hospital departments to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, safety procedures, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Rotate among assigned SPD functions as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of Sterile Processing experience.
  • Current CRCST certification required.
  • Current BLS/BCLS certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile processing procedures and infection prevention practices.
  • Familiarity with surgical instrumentation, sterilization methods, and manufacturer Instructions for Use.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and patient safety.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
