Job description

JMT's Raleigh Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician II to apply standard inspection procedures on ongoing activities, in the State of North Carolina, during and after construction for quality, safety and conformance to plans and specifications. Statewide opportunities available.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection of contractor's operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
  • Perform routine material testing
  • Measure and track quantities of pay items
  • Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector's daily diaries
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Required Experience
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Active driver's license
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
  • NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
  • 4+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects preferred

Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
