Institutional Summary

Creative Discovery Museum inspires children to explore, innovate, create, and play. Through hands-on experiences and welcoming learning environments, the Museum supports curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning for all children and their caregivers.

Occupational Summary

The STEM Learning Coordinator is a member of the STEM Learning Team and supports the daily operation and activation of the Museum’s STEM learning environments, including the Make-It Workshop makerspace. This role facilitates guest engagement through hands-on activities, prepares materials and tools, and contributes to the development of maker-based learning experiences.

The STEM Learning Coordinator works with guests of all ages, including general admission visitors, school groups, and camp participants. The position requires curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to independently learn new tools, processes, and STEM concepts in order to support engaging guest experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Facilitate guest engagement in the Make-It Workshop (makerspace), maintaining a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
  2. Design and prepare makerspace activations, including activity concepts, materials preparation, and visual instruction guides.
  3. Ensure STEM materials, tools, and supplies are organized, maintained, and ready for guest use.
  4. Facilitate STEM programs for general admission guests, school groups, camps, and special events.
  5. Present science demonstrations for school tours on assigned days and serve as backup presenter as needed. May be engaged to help develop science demonstrations.
  6. Serve as backup facilitator for STEM tour workshops.
  7. Collaborate with the STEM Fabrication Coordinator to maintain a safe, organized, and engaging makerspace environment.
  8. Support efficient use of materials and budget through effective organization and reuse practices.
  9. Train or assist Museum staff in implementing STEM activations when needed.
  10. Collaborate with external partners to support STEM programming as assigned.
  11. Provide support across the STEM Learning Team and Education Department as needed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the STEM Learning Manager. Serve as backup on the STEM team and in the Education Department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to develop creative, hands-on STEM learning activities.
  • Ability to facilitate engaging experiences for groups of varying sizes and ages.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage diverse materials and supplies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests, staff, and volunteers.
  • Ability to guide guest behavior to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Ability to independently learn new tools, technologies, and maker processes.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working in a makerspace, workshop, or similar creative environment preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with children.
  • Experience presenting or facilitating programs preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Work occurs on the Museum floor and in behind-the-scenes preparation areas.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday work required.
  • Saturday and Sunday availability required.
  • Holidays worked according to STEM team rotation.

Physical Demands

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Engaging actively with guests for several hours at a time.
  • Lifting and transporting program materials and supplies.
  • Operating tools and technology used in makerspace activities.
