Position Title: STEM / Experiential Learning (3P) Coach

Building: District-Wide

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent and/or designee

Salary: Commensurate to Education/Experience

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Education or related field
Valid Michigan elementary or secondary teaching certificate 

Five (5) years teaching experience
Prior coaching experience preferred
Experience with STEM, project-based, or experiential learning preferred
Knowledge and/or experience with AI tools in education preferred
Possess and demonstrate presentation skills
Ability to establish rapport with peers and students
Strong communication skills
Knowledge of Michigan Academic Standards and related programming






District Description:

Ypsilanti Community Schools is a small urban district conveniently centered around the major freeways (I-94 & US-23) within 5 minutes of Eastern Michigan University, and 15 minutes from the University of Michigan. We have approximately 3,900 students, 3 Early Childhood Learning Centers, 1 International Baccalaureate with Prek-5, 3 Elementary buildings, 1 Middle School, and 1 High School which features 2 programs within the building STEM and AC Tech, and 1 Alternative Education building (ACCE). YCS is a systemic reconfiguration Blueprint District that aims to dramatically improve student learning in a short amount of time. Position Description:

The STEM / Experiential Learning (3P) & AI Coach will support Ypsilanti Community Schools' efforts to improve academic outcomes for students identified as at risk under Section 31a through the implementation of high-quality STEM, experiential learning, and inquiry-based instructional practices. This position will provide direct instructional services to identified at-risk students, with a primary focus on Grades 4 and 5, while also building teacher capacity through job-embedded coaching, modeling, co-teaching, and professional learning.

The STEM / Experiential Learning (3P) & AI Coach will support the district's Toyota 3P framework and work collaboratively with teachers, building leaders, and Instructional Coaches to strengthen science achievement, applied mathematical reasoning, student engagement, and future-ready skills. The position is designed to expand and replicate instructional practices that have demonstrated success within the district through experiential learning, STEM integration, and responsible use of emerging technologies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide direct instructional services to identified at-risk students in Grades 4 and 5 through co-teaching, small-group STEM intervention, engineering design challenges, applied mathematics experiences, and classroom STEM investigations.

Deliver targeted science and mathematics support designed to improve student achievement, engagement, and readiness for state assessments.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify and address academic gaps among students identified as at risk under Section 31a criteria.

Design and facilitate experiential STEM learning opportunities that increase student engagement and provide authentic, real-world applications of science and mathematics concepts.

Support the reintegration of science instruction into elementary classrooms through modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching experiences.

Assist teachers in implementing inquiry-based instructional practices that strengthen scientific reasoning, problem solving, mathematical thinking, and student agency.

Utilize assessment data, student work, and classroom observations to identify intervention needs and monitor progress of identified at-risk students.

Support the development and implementation of STEM intervention opportunities during intervention periods, extended learning opportunities, summer learning programs, and other supplemental supports for identified at-risk students.

Assist teachers in leveraging age-appropriate AI tools to personalize instruction, increase student engagement, and support equitable access to learning opportunities.

Collaborate with Instructional Coaches to ensure alignment between literacy, mathematics, science, and experiential learning initiatives while maintaining a focus on improving outcomes for identified at-risk students.

Develop and deliver professional learning aligned to STEM education, experiential learning, Toyota 3P implementation, and AI integration.

Maintain documentation and evidence of services provided to identified at-risk students as required for Section 31a programming and accountability.

EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of curriculum guidelines for Ypsilanti Community Schools and the Michigan Academic Standards.

Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication; coordinating and collaborating with departments to establish and execute responsibilities; computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, spreadsheets, student data management systems, internet navigation and related software applications; and management skills gained through multitasking and coaching.

Ability to plan and develop courses suitable for specific grade levels; develop lesson plans incorporating projects, group discussions, real-world applications, technology integration, and experiential learning opportunities; use relevant computer applications; prioritize tasks; and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
