Job description

Description

The K-8 STEM Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, hands-on instruction in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. ย The teacher fosters creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving through project-based learning, experimentation, and real-world applications. Responsibilities include developing age-appropriate STEM curriculum and activities, integrating technology into instruction, maintaining a safe and innovative learning environment, and encouraging student curiosity and exploration. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong classroom management, effective communication skills, and a passion for inspiring young learners in STEM fields. Knowledge or experience with Lego Robotics, Sphero Education, and/or aerospace-related education is preferred but not required.ย

Requirements

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance.   • Works with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on lesson plans for students.ย 
  • Diagnoses and analyzes for the purpose of providing appropriate instruction.ย 
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students.ย 
  • Assesses student progress in accordance with the approved procedures of the Diocese of Orlando;ย 
  • Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.ย 
  • Participates in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Catechist Certification Program and in the school-sponsored professional development programs.ย 
  • Cooperates with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities and projects.ย 
  • Maintains accurate student academic records and attendance records.ย 
  • Maintains a safe, orderly and secure learning and working environment.ย 
  • Participates in the performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator in a school. ย 
  • Maintains confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters.ย 
  • Maintains professional relationship between school and parents.ย 
  • Maintains contact with parents through parent-teacher conferences, telephone, or written communications.ย 
  • Encourages parental involvement through school activities, connecting home and school.ย ย 
  • Maintains all records as required, including but not limited to grade books, attendance records and student progress reports.ย ย 
  • Assists in the protection of student and school property.ย 
  • Keeps up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Diocese Catholic Schools.ย ย 
  • Monitors students in a testing environment.ย 
  • Maintains timely and accurate information relevant to their job responsibilities.ย ย 
  • Performs all tasks in accordance with Diocesan Catholic Schools policies.ย 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.ย 

QUALIFICATIONSย

CATHOLIC FAITHย 

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.ย 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEย 

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college that is recognized as acceptable for Florida certification.ย 
  • Must hold or obtain a Professional Certificate in subject area taught within three years of hire.ย 
  • Documented progress towards certification must be made within the first year of hire and filed in school personnel file; otherwise teaching contract cannot be renewed.ย 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIESย 

The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.ย

  • Work is performed mostly indoors in an environmentally controlled setting.ย ย 
  • Work is performed in a busy and occasionally noisy environment.ย ย 
  • Work is to be performed directly on school campuses.ย ย 
  • Works frequently in close physical proximity to others and may encounter work in enclosed or tight spaces.ย
