Job description


Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure safety during daily operations and maintenance down days on the casting floor
  • Receive ladles on ladle landing platform when shipped from LMF or VTD
  • Properly install ladle slide gate cylinders
  • Install tundish cover flux on molten steel in tundish
  • Take temperature of steel and samples; hydrovas each heat
  • Exchange tundish each sequence using caster 125-ton remote crane
  • Pack of clay rope and nail whiskers in casting mold
  • Manual filling of mold and monitoring
  • Monitor casting machine speeds and breakout protection
  • Prep new tundish for pre heat and start preheaters
  • Stock all consumables for casting on the casting deck using the 125-ton casting crane
  • Communicate with LMF/ VTD for accurate shipping times to the casting department
  • Casting machine mold, bender, and segment exchanges during scheduled down days
  • Operate the caster torch machine in manual and auto functions
  • Apply id on slabs
  • Operate slab deburring machine
  • Apply hold codes to slabs when required
  • Operate runout crane for dummy bar size changes
  • Set dummy bar head size up to proper width required to cast melt practice
  • Remove head crop and tail crop per start up and end of each sequence
  • Remove and hot chalk proper id on etch sample cut from required melt practice
  • Perform preventive maintenance on torch machine
  • Change cutting tips on torch machine
  • Understand proper cutting plans in level 2 for torch slab cutting
  • Remove kerf boxes and dump when required using runout crane and forklift
  • Ensure safety of all employees who enter/work in the torch / runout operating area
  • Visually check slab id's
  • Trimming leftover kerf off the slab with a hand torch
  • Manually identify slabs with hot chalk when automatic id machines have mechanical issues

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and experience.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
