Job description

Shape steel with accuracy. See the build come to life.

Step into a shop where precision meets purpose. As our Structural Steel Layout & Fit-Up Specialist, you’ll translate prints into reality—laying out, fitting, and assembling steel so welders can lock in final strength.

A day in the shop

You start by reviewing fabrication drawings and planning your layout. Through the day, you position beams and plates, confirm squareness and alignment, prep edges with grinders and an oxy-fuel torch, and team up with welders to ensure assemblies are ready to burn. You’ll move material with overhead cranes and forklifts, troubleshoot fit-up challenges, and keep production on pace—without compromising quality.

Core Responsibilities
  • Interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and shop sketches to plan work.
  • Layout, fit, and assemble structural components to exact project specifications.
  • Check dimensions, alignment, squareness, and fit-up prior to welding.
  • Use layout and measuring tools to hold tolerances and meet quality standards.
  • Prep material with grinders, cutting torches, and standard shop equipment.
  • Partner with welders to confirm correct assembly and weld readiness.
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to handle materials and assemblies safely.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fit-up issues while meeting production schedules.
  • Deliver high-quality workmanship through every fabrication phase.
  • Pitch in with additional shop tasks as needed.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of structural fitting experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, and shop details.
  • Proficiency with tape measures, levels, squares, and layout/measurement tools.
  • Safe, efficient operation of overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Hands-on skill with oxy-fuel cutting, grinders, and common fab tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and dedication to quality.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and collaborates well with a team.
  • Resourceful problem-solver who stays productive in a fast-paced environment.
Who thrives here
  • Experienced in structural steel fabrication and assembly
  • Safety-first, dependable, and consistent
  • Detail-driven and accurate
  • Confident working from fabrication drawings independently
  • Proud of craftsmanship and final fit
  • Positive teammate with a strong work ethic
What you’ll appreciate
  • Challenging, rewarding projects in structural steel fabrication
  • A shop culture that values craftsmanship, safety, and quality
  • A professional environment to put your skills to work
  • Opportunities to contribute to builds made to last
  • Recognition for hard work, reliability, and attention to detail
