Job description

Material Handler

We are looking for self-motivated and safety-conscious candidates who would like to join our production team in our Buckeye, AZ location!

New employees can earn $67K in total compensation when working at Canam Steel Corp for a 40-50 hour work week. This includes the base rate, shift differential, overtime, retention and production bonuses.

There are additional ways to earn including referral bonuses and mentoring incentives.

Job Summary:

The Material Handler is responsible for operating cranes and other heavy equipment to lift, move, and position loads in a manufacturing setting, ensuring safety and efficiency.

Essential Functions:
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and other heavy equipment to move materials and finished products.
  • Unload raw materials such as steel bundles and coils from delivery trucks or storage and prepare them for use in manufacturing.
  • Move finished goods, including steel joists, grinders, and other structural pieces, from the production area to staging or shipping areas.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of raw materials and finished goods, ensuring the correct materials are available for production.
  • Adhere to safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Regular, reliable, punctual and consistent attendance. Must be able to work regular and/or flexible hours or shifts, overtime, weekends as required.
Requirements:
  • Six months of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in the steel industry a plus.
  • Ability to pass internal test to obtain valid crane operator certification.
  • Ability to read and understand order requisition or design paperwork and read a measuring tape.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, applying common sense and understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions required.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent communication with others to exchange information.
  • Frequent repetition of motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Frequent moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Frequent lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
  • Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Constantly thinking and processing information.
  • Constantly maintaining concentration and focus on tasks.
Work Environment:
  • Manufacturing floor with machinery.
  • Exposure to airborne particles, loud noises, and extreme heat and cold.
  • Use of personal protection equipment is required.
