Job description

Job Title: Production Engineer - Steel Machining Group
Company: AISIN North Carolina
Department: Engineering
Location: Durham, NC
Position Summary
The Production Engineer, Steel Machining Group, will support manufacturing by maintaining the machining process. This role will troubleshoot and provide engineering solutions to the lines as well as the shop floor. Furthermore, this position monitors different aspects of product development and continually strives to improve the way manufacturing operates. This is a hands-on position where the bulk of the time will be spent on the floor and the manufacturing area, providing support to production.
Position Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
  • Plan and install machinery and equipment for new or re-tooled product lines.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues that occur on the manufacturing floor.
  • Implement design and process changes to increase equipment and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Root cause analysis and countermeasure of quality issues.
  • Continuous improvement of quality and cost through machine, jig, and process improvements.
  • Design, specify and implement these improvements.
  • Line support to repair/improve machines.
  • Responsible for ensuring that new equipment is properly installed and ready for quality production.
  • Accurate planning and budget development for investments and tooling for new programs.
  • Create documentation for changes to processes and equipment.
  • Implement kaizens to improve manufacturing metrics, including but not limited to Availability and Labor Reductions

Required Skills and Abilities
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Strong knowledge of machining equipment; CNC Lathes, CNC Mills, Grinders, Hobbing, Robots, Collaborative robots, Laser marking, Welding, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with PFMEAs, Statistical probability, and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with robotics and AutoCAD.
  • Keen trouble shooting, problem solving and multi-tasking ability within an engineering role.

Education/Training/Certifications
  • BS, Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical or related area of study
