Position Summary
This is an entry-level engineering position supporting the new product development engineering group for the Emergency Medicine product families. Assignments may also include work for other products within the Teleflex VEM portfolio. Medical device experience is preferred. Incumbent organizes and manages multiple projects and executes them in a timely manner. Assignments will focus on providing creative solutions to new products or existing product improvements as needs arise. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Incumbent at this level executes on the scope of assignments by planning, designing, and coordinating the development of engineering activities to support new product development and changes/ improvements to existing product lines. These projects can exist anywhere from the early concept stage through manufacturing transfer and scale-up. Incumbent at this level receives instruction and assistance as needed and is aware of the work unit's operating procedures and policies.
Principal Responsibilities
• Supports research and project initiatives by working with clinicians, researchers, and vendors which may involve travel to sites within the United States.
• Gathers data on current state of the art, practices, policies, etc. to support unmet needs development.
• Prepares protocols and coordinates execution for exploratory work, research, and prototyping for various medical devices and components.
• Assists with the development of Design History Files.
• Supports multiple projects and ensures they are completed in a timely manner.
• Applies mechanical design skills to the creation and/or modification of existing medical device designs, test fixturing and manufacturing equipment.
• Helps generate design ideas for new products as well as solutions to existing products when modifications are requested.
• Demonstrates professional responsibility by cooperating with other personnel to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
• Enhances growth and development through participation in education programs, training meetings and workshops, and remaining apprised of current literature.
• Participates actively in continuous quality improvement activities through compliance with safety standards.
• Maintains compliance with principles of accepted employee conduct as identified in the Teleflex employee handbook and as specified in departmental policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education / Experience Requirements
• Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering.
• One year of medical device or other related research experience minimum is preferred.
• Experience in using SolidWorks CAD (design/drafting) program.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Background with injection molding, plastic extrusion and plastic part assembly process and methods desired.
• Experience with U.S. FDA GMP and ISO requirements for design, risk management, and validation preferred.
• ISO and ASTM testing methods for medical devices preferred.
• An understanding of regulations pertaining to medical device design and design modifications preferred.
