Job description

Talon Hiring Solutions has a client in the Birmingham, Alabama area that is looking for a full time Senior Steel Detailer to join the team. This position is for a detailer that understands structural steel, fabrication and constructibility.

What you will do:

  • Prepare detailed shop and erection drawings for structural steel projects
  • Detail steel for power substations, equipment supports, H-Frames, A-Frames and other heavy utility structures
  • Generate accurate bills of material (BOMs)
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams
  • Ensure compliance with AISC standards and project specifications
  • Review and incorporate field and fabrication feedback

What you will bring:

  • 5+ years of steel detailing experience
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting platforms
  • Solid understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices
  • Ability to work in-office and collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams
  • Familiarity with AISC standards
  • Substation or power utility detailing experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with Tekla, SDS/2, or #D modeling platforms preferred but not required
