As a Steel Detailer, you will be responsible for creating precise and comprehensive steel fabrication drawings, serving as blueprints for successful project execution. Your expertise will ensure that all steel components are accurately designed, coordinated, and ready for manufacturing and installation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale construction projects by translating conceptual designs into detailed, actionable drawings that meet industry standards and client specifications.
Responsibilities
- Produce and develop detailed high-quality steel fabrication shop drawings from architectural drawings, sketches, specifications, verbal, and supplemental documentation using AutoCAD.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to interpret design intent and ensure accuracy in all drawings.
- Generate detailed plans for beams, columns, connections, and miscellaneous steel.
- Incorporate technical specifications, material lists, and connection details into all drawings to ensure clarity and completeness.
- Review and revise drawings for compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Utilize advanced drafting tools such as AutoCAD and SDS2 to enhance visualization and precision of design documents.
- Identify and resolve detailing and design conflicts.
- Assist in research and all stages of a job cycle.
- Develop detailed 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
- Plan and complete all necessary design work to high-quality standards.
- Create construction documents, plans, elevations, sections, and details adhering to project specifications and industry standards.
- Assist in preparing mechanical designs and schematics for various engineering disciplines.
- Maintain organized CAD files and ensure version control throughout project lifecycles.
- Support drafting tasks related to construction workflows, including 2D animations for visual presentations when needed.
Essential Skills- Full proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of structural steel with at least 2 years of experience working as a drafter for structural steel fabrication shop.
- Proficiency in SDS2.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English.
- Strong understanding of drafting standards, schematics development, and technical documentation practices.
- Ability to multitask, follow through and meet commitments.
- Knowledge of construction processes and ability to interpret architectural or engineering drawings accurately.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret complex construction documents.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Associate degree or certification in drafting and related field.
- Experience with mechanical design projects or creating detailed mechanical schematics is a plus.
- Familiarity with AISC standards and construction documents.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to produce precise 2D drawings and support modeling efforts effectively.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection practices.
Work EnvironmentThe position is full-time, in-office, working in a cubicle alongside two other detailers, in a professional yet sometimes loud and family-like atmosphere. Work hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch. Overtime is expected and compensated at time and a half, especially during the busy season, with potential overtime of 8-16 hours per week.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.65 - $48.07/hr.
