Job Duties

Enhances public safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Department of Corrections (DOC) staff and inmates, by meeting re-entry objectives and by providing effective security, programming, custody and control of adult inmates in a major correctional facility.
Position performs repair, preventative maintenance, and service of all plumbing systems according to building codes and standards. Maintains inventory through planning and purchasing and responds to work requests in a timely manner in a Total Maintenance System (TMS). Supervises inmate workers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the facility. May respond to emergency callbacks for service on a rotating basis. May assist in other areas of Building and Grounds department, including preventative maintenance, construction projects, equipment repair, electrical, welding, carpentry, electronics, or outside maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Considerable knowledge of corrective maintenance, installation, repair, and preventive maintenance related to plumbing/steam-fitting. Demonstrated skill in the use of tools and supplies related to the trade. Demonstrated ability to keep narrative and statistical records relating to the maintenance and repair of equipment.

Additional Considerations

Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise the work of others. Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Programs and Gmail or preventative maintenance programs. Completion from vocational/technical school, completion of apprenticeship and/or sufficient on-the-job training (OJT) in trade activities. Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Multiple trades' experience.
