As a steamfitter apprentice, you can expect to spend your days assisting journeyman steamfitters with installing, maintaining, and repairing high-pressure pipe systems, often in commercial or industrial settings. You’ll receive hands-on training in reading blueprints, learning fabrication techniques, and using specialized tools and equipment. Most programs combine on-the-job learning with classroom instruction covering safety, math, and piping codes. You’ll work closely with experienced mentors, gradually taking on more complex tasks as your skills develop in preparation for becoming a licensed journeyman.
