Job description

FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

1. Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

2. Operate, load and unload washers and dryers.

3. Operate spreader machine.

4. Operate flatwork ironer, flatwork folder to iron and fold flatwork pieces.

5. Operate steam press or iron to press special coats, doctor’s lab coats, and other items.

6. Work at hand fold table to fold and stack linen; place/load linen into hampers and linen carts.

7. Segregate worn, stained or otherwise imperfect articles.

8. Inspect linen for tears, soil and/or stains.

9. Deliver linen exchange carts and linen hampers throughout the hospital.

10. Sort and deliver linen bags throughout the hospital.

11. Pick up soiled linen throughout the hospital; deliver it to the laundry.

12. Work in the wash room to sort and weigh all linens.

13. Record weights of wash loads.

14. Do general cleaning; sweep and mop floors, wash walls.

15. Use air hose and vacuum to remove lint.

16. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.

17. Attends meetings as required.

18. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

19. Reports to Laundry Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Ability to read, write, speak, perform addition and subtraction and follow simple written and oral directions.

DRIVER’S LICENSE: Valid Missouri Class E Driver’s License, preferred.

EXPERIENCE: None required.

SPECIAL:

MACHINE OPERATION: Washers, dryers, flatwork ironer, flatwork folder, steam press, and spreader.

PHYSICAL:

STANDING: Ability to stand for the duration of the shift.

WALKING: Walk throughout the hospital numerous times per day.

LIFTING: Ability to lift containers loaded with soiled linen weighing up to 50 pounds.

VISUAL: Ability to read forms, charts wand worksheets.

HEARING: Ability to receive and understand phone calls when working solo on weekends.

CLIMBING: Ability to climb steps and ladders when placing clean linen on shelves.
