The launch of the Digital Transformation & Innovation (DT&I) team marks a turning point for HCA Healthcare’s approach to change. Large-scale AI transformation solutions are being rapidly developed by cross-functional Agile pods and DT&I’s Value Tracking shared service drives change by bringing clinical, technical and financial value to light.

The Senior Statistician will support HCA Healthcare DT&I domain leaders by providing statistical analytics and reporting to identify opportunities and inform ongoing transformation initiatives. Responsibilities include consultation on research questions and the design of experiments, studies, data extraction, data modeling, statistical analysis and interpretation of results. The Senior Statistician must be able to take direction for tactically appropriate data and information models, identify opportunities and strategies in analyzing data, possess advanced analytical skills, intermediate SQL query skills, have excellent communication skills [both written and verbal], have relationship building skills, portray a professional presence, and possess a proven track record of delivering high quality analytics results. The Senior Statistician must be able to take direction, work independently, and work in a small group collaboratively to deliver high level results within specified time frames.

What you will do in this role:

  • Functions as a data domain expert for multiple assigned clinical/operational service lines.
  • Writes intermediate to advanced SQL to data mine, extract and model data from multiple databases
  • Determines data quality or completeness; Effectively communicates gaps to stakeholders.
  • Efficiently and effectively aggregates and cleans data from multiple sources to prepare data for manipulation, analysis, and visualizations.
  • Develops actionable reports, report narratives, and data visualizations that identify areas of opportunity and help drive clinical quality at scale. Primary department platforms are Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and PowerBI.
  • Deep understanding of internal datasets (clinical, financial, operational) and external datasets
  • Accurately interprets clinical stakeholder data needs and appropriately crafts requirements and project plans to satisfy requests
  • Collaborates with research teams to design studies, perform sample size/power calculations and stratification/randomization of studies.
  • Provides expert advice and consultation on clinical development program strategy and tactics.
  • Plans statistical design for research studies, conducts statistical analysis and reporting for these analyses.
  • Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications based on executive or clinical stakeholder requirements
  • Leverages large datasets to build complex statistical models, programs and performs statistical testing. Primary statistical language is R.
  • Appropriately risk adjusts data when called for to account for potential variances in populations to enable a more robust analysis of clinical performance.
  • Identifies patterns, variability and/or outliers from raw data.
  • Interprets and presents results in a clear and meaningful way to executive level audiences
  • Delivers rapid turnaround analytics requests in support of hospital, division or group operations.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree - Required
  • Master's degree - Preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience as a statistician – Required
