Statistical Programmer Contract information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Statistical Programmer Contract, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Statistical Programmer Contract, you need a solid background in statistics, programming (especially SAS or R), and a relevant degree in mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Familiarity with statistical software (such as SAS, R, or Python), CDISC standards, and experience with clinical trial datasets are typically required, and certification in SAS programming can be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies are vital for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance of statistical analyses in research or clinical environments.

What is a Statistical Programmer Contract?

A Statistical Programmer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based role where a professional specializes in programming and data analysis, often within clinical research or pharmaceutical industries. These programmers use statistical software like SAS, R, or Python to manage, analyze, and report clinical trial data. Contract positions typically focus on ensuring data integrity, generating tables, listings, and figures, and supporting regulatory submissions. The contract nature means the engagement is for a defined period or project, offering flexibility for both the programmer and the employer.

What are some common challenges faced by Statistical Programmers working on a contract basis, and how can they be addressed?

Statistical Programmers working on a contract often face challenges such as quickly adapting to new team environments, learning proprietary systems, and managing tight project deadlines. Since contractors may work with multiple clients or projects, strong organizational and communication skills are essential to align with varying expectations and workflows. Building rapport with permanent team members and proactively seeking clarification on project requirements can help smooth the transition and ensure project success.

Job Summary
World Wide Technology (WWT) is seeking a Network Engineer for a six-month contract-to-hire engagement on the Business Infrastructure Services team, with the opportunity to convert to a full-time role based on performance and business need. As a valued member of the team, you will design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure supporting WWT's NAIC warehouse operations while actively contributing to network security initiatives that protect, segment, and harden those environments. This role requires the ability to support an on-site presence at the NAIC warehouses in Edwardsville, IL, and demands strong communication skills to collaborate with warehouse integration center leadership and cross-functional IT resources.
As in all things at WWT, we are looking to take our organization to the next level. We are looking for candidates who continually strive to improve themselves so they can improve the organization as well.
Job Responsibilities
Network Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Core Network Engineering
  • Design, configure, install, test, and maintain Cisco networking equipment - including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and access points - across data center, remote site, and cloud environments.
  • Configure and maintain static and dynamic routing protocols, including BGP and EIGRP, for internal and external connectivity.
  • Configure and troubleshoot LAN protocols such as VPC, LACP, and STP.
  • Deploy and maintain wireless networks by performing site surveys to properly locate, install, and RF-tune access points for optimal coverage.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring tools for proactive analysis, alerting, and trend analysis of network health and performance.
  • Troubleshoot network performance issues in collaboration with vendors, carriers, and end users.
  • Review Quality of Service (QoS) configuration and perform operability and performance testing to proactively optimize the network.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on network infrastructure.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining disaster recovery plans.
  • Create and maintain documentation including as-builts, network diagrams, and knowledge-base articles.
  • Generate hardware and software procurement lists and follow established processes to procure items.
  • Develop and maintain network automation processes using Python, Ansible, or similar languages.
  • Provide technical support and training to other teams as needed.

Network Security
  • Configure and manage Cisco firewalls (ASA / Firepower) including NAT rules, ACLs, DACLs, and security policies.
  • Design and implement network segmentation strategies - VLANs, VRFs, and microsegmentation - to limit lateral movement and enforce least-privilege access.
  • Support zero trust network access (ZTNA) initiatives by applying identity-aware, context-driven access policies across the network.
  • Deploy, tune, and maintain IDS/IPS systems for threat detection and prevention across the perimeter and internal network segments.
  • Configure and support VPN technologies including DMVPN, IPSec site-to-site VPN, and remote access VPN for secure connectivity.
  • Monitor network traffic for anomalous behavior and participate in incident response activities alongside the security team.
  • Collaborate with the security team to remediate vulnerabilities and implement network-level security controls.
