Job Summary
  • Sr. Manufacturing Engineering (ME) is responsible for delivering manufacturing engineering solutions to the Operations organization. ME's develop, introduce and sustain these solutions to enable and deliver Zero Defect Manufacturing processes during the serial production phase of the product Life Cycle. ME's provide estimates for manufacturing time in GKN quoting process for new work packages. ME's provide the review, planning and production support necessary to create and maintain manufacturing build documentation that will insure all deliverables are in full conformance with the customer's requirements and GKN's engineering, procedures and specification requirements.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for introducing technical improvement initiatives for sites in North America
  • ME candidate must be familiar with general shop safety practices, creating and updating shop travelers, work instructions, operation sheets, tool orders, BOM's and change management documents.
  • ME candidates should have experience in quoting the manufacturing process to successfully win new work packages.
  • ME candidate should have previous experience with the following: CNC machining, NDT inspection, CMM inspection, Assembly and Paint Processes, GD&T, RCCA & Lean Six-Sigma.
  • Responsible for the implementation of tooling and or production planning, from original concept through to production. ME's design these processes with a high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite.
  • ME's deliver measurable, metrics driven results in line with Operational goals.
  • Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
  • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives and optimized flow
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Utilize root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
  • Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN
  • Participates in activities within a global technical community and has an understanding of the interface with broader business functions within GKN.

Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial) or in lieu of this 5 plus years experience.
  • 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering role
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with composite manufacture and assembly
  • Demonstrated performance leading and facilitating cross functional teams
  • Automation integration, programming or implementation of robotic systems for Aerospace applications
  • GKN Experience
  • Working knowledge of LEAN processes and practices
  • Working knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000
  • Demonstrated experience with AS-9145 Zero Defect Manufacturing, or equivalent automotive PPAP experience
  • Experience with New Product / Process introduction (industrialization) & existing production process improvements
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical process control (SPC)
  • Strong background with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel
