Statistical Process Control Engineer information

What does a Statistical Process Control Engineer do?

A Statistical Process Control (SPC) Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining systems that monitor and control manufacturing processes using statistical methods. They analyze data to identify trends, reduce process variation, and improve product quality. SPC Engineers work closely with production teams to ensure processes remain stable, efficient, and in compliance with industry standards. Their role often involves training staff in SPC techniques and troubleshooting quality issues using data-driven approaches.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Statistical Process Control Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Statistical Process Control Engineer, you need a solid background in statistics, process engineering, and quality management, often supported by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with SPC software (such as Minitab or JMP), Six Sigma methodologies, and quality system certifications like ASQ are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for interpreting data and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These skills and qualifications are vital to maintain product quality, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvement within manufacturing or production environments.

What is the difference between Statistical Process Control Engineer vs Quality Engineer?

AspectStatistical Process Control EngineerQuality Engineer
Primary FocusMonitoring and controlling manufacturing processes using statistical methodsEnsuring overall product quality through testing, inspection, and process improvements
CertificationsSix Sigma, Statistical Process Control (SPC) certificationsSix Sigma, Quality Management certifications (e.g., CQE)
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, process development labsQuality departments, production facilities
Industry UsageManufacturing, automotive, electronicsManufacturing, healthcare, aerospace

While both roles focus on improving product quality, the Statistical Process Control Engineer specializes in using statistical tools to monitor and control manufacturing processes, whereas the Quality Engineer oversees broader quality assurance activities, including testing and compliance. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

How does a Statistical Process Control Engineer typically collaborate with production and quality teams to drive process improvements?

A Statistical Process Control Engineer regularly works alongside both production and quality assurance teams to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and implement data-driven improvements. They analyze real-time data from manufacturing processes, facilitate root cause analysis sessions, and communicate findings through reports or presentations. Collaboration often includes training team members on SPC tools and methodologies, as well as guiding them in using statistical techniques to monitor and control process variability. This cross-functional teamwork ensures that process adjustments are both technically sound and operationally practical, leading to sustained quality improvements.

Job description

About Us

Founded in 1988, Marketech International Corp. (MIC) is a global technology and engineering company supporting semiconductor, high-tech manufacturing, cleanroom, and mission-critical facility projects. MIC provides turnkey facility integration solutions, including cleanroom and MEP construction, DI water, gas and chemical supply systems, wastewater treatment, facility monitoring and control systems, installation, and maintenance services. Through Marketech International Corporation USA, we support major semiconductor and industrial projects across the United States.

Job Overview

Marketech International Corporation USA is seeking a skilled Advanced Process Chemical SCADA Engineer for a TSMC project to support the design, configuration, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of SCADA / DCS systems for chemical, industrial, and semiconductor-related facility operations. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining control system architecture, HMI displays, system tags, control logic, alarms, historian data, and communication interfaces that support critical process systems.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with SCADA / DCS platforms, preferably Emerson DeltaV, strong PLC integration knowledge, and the ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings to ensure system configurations align with process flow, safety requirements, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure, build, and maintain SCADA / DCS system architecture, including servers, controllers, EIOC, and related system components
  • Design and develop HMI / operator graphic displays to support clear process visibility and operator response
  • Create, configure, and manage system tags in accordance with P&ID drawings, project standards, and naming conventions
  • Configure industrial communication protocols, including PLC, Modbus, OPC, and related integration interfaces
  • Develop control logic using Emerson DeltaV function blocks and related control strategies
  • Implement sequence control, interlocks, timers, permissives, and conditional logic to support safe and reliable system operation
  • Design integrator-based calculations, conditional logic, and process control functions based on operational requirements
  • Configure alarm strategies, including HI, HI-HI, A_ALM, B_ALM, and related alarm parameters
  • Implement alarm hysteresis, alarm suppression logic, and OPSUP logic to reduce nuisance alarms and improve operator response
  • Provide on-site maintenance support, troubleshooting assistance, and emergency response for control system issues
  • Configure historian / INSQL data points, records, trends, and reporting structures
  • Develop trend displays, dashboards, reports, and data visualization tools to support operations and engineering teams
  • Integrate SCADA systems with databases, historian platforms, and external data systems as needed

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with SCADA / DCS systems; Emerson DeltaV experience strongly preferred
  • Experience configuring servers, controllers, EIOC, HMI graphics, tags, alarms, and control logic
  • PLC integration experience, including Ladder Logic and Function Block programming concepts
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Modbus, OPC, and PLC communication interfaces
  • Strong control logic design experience, including sequences, interlocks, timers, permissives, and conditional logic
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply P&ID drawings, loop drawings, and related engineering documentation
  • Experience supporting loop checks, system testing, commissioning, and startup activities
  • Experience with alarm configuration, alarm rationalization, alarm suppression, and nuisance alarm troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with historian systems, INSQL, trend displays, dashboards, and operational reporting tools
  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to communication issues, system performance, alarms, and logic errors
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, commissioning, and project teams
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and ability to work in high-specification industrial environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting chemical, semiconductor, manufacturing, industrial, or high-purity facility systems
  • Emerson DeltaV configuration and commissioning experience
  • Experience working with chemical delivery systems, process utilities, UPW, wastewater, gas, exhaust, or facility control systems
  • Experience supporting field commissioning, startup, SAT/FAT, loop checks, and system validation
  • Knowledge of control system cybersecurity, access control, change management, and system documentation standards
  • Experience with database integration, historian reporting, and dashboard development
