What are State Classified employees?

State Classified employees are workers who fill positions that are governed by a state's civil service system and classified personnel rules. These roles are typically non-exempt, meaning they are eligible for overtime, and cover a wide range of operational, administrative, and support functions within state agencies. State Classified positions are filled based on merit, and employees usually have certain protections, such as grievance procedures and job security, not always available to other employee types. The classification ensures fair hiring, promotion, and compensation practices within state government.
