Who will you be working with?

Wabtec's Train Control Office Systems (TCOS) group develops and maintains a suite of products and applications known as the Train Management & Dispatch System (TMDS). TMDS provides our customers with a comprehensive, integrated set of tools and capabilities to manage and control train movements across their rail networks.

This role is part of an embedded software engineering team located at our BNSF customer site, so you will collaborate with both Wabtec and BNSF personnel as needed. Within Wabtec, you will work closely with a Program Manager, Engineering Manager, Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, Test Engineers, and Support Engineers. While interaction with BNSF personnel will be less frequent, as the Program Manager and Engineering Manager serve as the primary points of contact between BNSF and Wabtec, you will engage directly with BNSF resources as needed to troubleshoot issues, support software triage activities, and contribute to design initiatives.

As part of the embedded Wabtec team at BNSF, you will represent Wabtec with a professional, positive, and One Wabtec mindset in your day-to-day assignments and interactions at the customer site. By maintaining a customer-focused, quality-first approach to the team's delivery commitments, you will contribute to the continued success of the long-standing relationship between BNSF and Wabtec, one of Wabtec's key customer accounts.

As a Software Engineer on this embedded team, you will design scalable, stable solutions while analyzing and resolving production issues across a group of applications. These applications include components of the TMDS product suite, ranging from server-side applications that are critical to integration and overall system functionality to customer-facing desktop applications. You will help ensure adherence to established engineering practices through peer reviews, mentoring team members, and guiding problem-solving efforts. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering high-quality solutions that meet customer needs and advance our technological capabilities.

What do we want to know about you?

You Must Have:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, MIS, Software Engineering or related discipline

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in application development with .NET framework using C#, VB.NET, and SQL Server.

  • Experience with development of entire applications and/or very large features.

  • Solid desktop application development, Windows services (SOA) experience and good understanding of Microsoft platform.

  • Strong practical knowledge of optimizing code for maintainability and data modeling.

  • Good to have knowledge of domain modeling and entity modeling.

  • High degree of attention to detail.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to articulate clearly and concisely.

  • Self motivated, quick learner, results-oriented, and a clear focus on quality.

  • Ability to develop high level of credibility and strong positive relationships with peers and management.

  • Dispatching/Railroad knowledge and experience,

  • Experience with business process analysis (current state, future state, gap analysis),

  • A flair for taking something unstructured or ambiguous and transform it into clearly understood and documented artifacts

  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to learn detailed technical processes and the connection/dependencies on the type of technology stack the application is being developed on,

  • Familiar/experience with message-oriented middleware such as RabbitMQ, microservices, and SQL,

  • Familiar/experience with networking and data transfer protocols,

  • Familiar/experience with system installation best practices,

  • Familiar with AI driven development,

  • Familiar/experience with .NET friendly IDE's (Visual Studio) and  Cyber Security hardening techniques.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Work with program manager on work item priorities and acceptance criteria

  • Design scalable, stable systems for customer

  • Analyze and fix production issues

  • Ensure adherence to guidelines through peer reviews

  • Mentor team members and guide problem-solving

  • Contribute to DevOps practices and software design best practices

  • Partner with program manager and customer to ensure projects reflect the expected requirements

  • Partner with system engineer/product owners managing nearest neighbor components to document and coordinates the ICD requirements with software integrations

  • It is expected that schedules are flexible to allow for conference calls and workshop to be held at times that accommodate the customer

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $91000-129800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
