What We Look For In a English Grammar and Syntax Tutor
  • Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of parts of speech, sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, pronoun usage, modifier placement, punctuation rules, clause types, and syntactic patterns. Ability to explain dependent and independent clauses, parallel structure, subjunctive mood, and common grammatical errors while preparing students for academic writing, standardized tests, and professional communication.
  • Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching grammar rules in context, sentence diagramming, and error identification and correction. Guides students through analyzing sentence structures, correcting run-ons and fragments, applying comma and semicolon rules, and improving syntactic variety in writing. Emphasizes understanding grammar as a tool for clearer communication and connects grammar study to improved writing, editing, and standardized test performance.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with English grammar curricula and common challenges such as comma splice errors, dangling modifiers, and tense consistency. Adapts instruction using sentence-combining exercises, error analysis activities, and writing-based grammar application to support students from middle school through adult learners strengthening grammar and syntax for academic, professional, or test preparation purposes.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
