DELIVERY OPERATIONS MANAGERSalem, VA | Multi-State Fleet Operation$75,000–$90,000 Starting SalaryPlus Performance Bonus Opportunities Up To 10% of Base Salary

25+ Delivery Routes Across VA, NC, WV & OH

Join Layman Distributing and help lead a growing food distribution operation. We are seeking a proven leader who is ready to make an immediate impact. Work directly with the VP of Operations to oversee driver performance, safety, route efficiency, fleet readiness, and team development.

For more than 75 years, Layman Distributing has been Bringing the Goods throughout the region. This position plays a critical role in ensuring consistency, quality, and continued growth across our delivery operation while helping build the next generation of transportation leadership within our company.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Manage daily delivery operations across multiple states

·        Lead and develop drivers, trainers, and area supervisors

·        Oversee 25+ delivery routes

·        Conduct driver ride-alongs to coach, train, and evaluate safety, service, and route execution

·        Promote and enforce a culture focused on safety, efficiency, and customer service

·        Manage fleet safety, DOT compliance, and driver accountability

·        Coordinate truck maintenance and repairs

·        Develop maintenance schedules and equipment replacement processes

·        Optimize routing, labor utilization, and fuel efficiency

·        Resolve delivery and routing issues while maintaining customer service standards

·        Develop and improve operational processes and performance metrics

·        Ensure drivers properly complete manifests and account for returns, credits, and collections



QUALIFICATIONS

·        Logistics, transportation, or delivery management experience

·        Leadership and employee development experience

·        Mechanical knowledge and fleet maintenance coordination experience, including refrigeration repairs

·        Strong Microsoft Excel and analytical skills

·        Understanding of DOT and transportation safety regulations

·        Experience with fleet management and routing software

·        Route optimization experience preferred

·        CDL knowledge a plus

·        CDL or willingness to obtain one preferred



SCHEDULE

·        Full-time onsite position based in Salem, VA

·        Five-day work week

·        Flexible hours as operational needs require

·        Weekly driver ride-alongs required

·        Approximately four overnight trips per month supporting field operations and driver development
