Description
The Department of Facilities and Construction Management at Jackson State University is seeking a skilled Painter II to join their team.
The Painter II will be responsible for surface preparation, paint application, color matching and using different techniques and tools, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Examples of Duties
  • Apply paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
  • Scrape, sandpaper, prime or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  • Erect scaffolding, movable, and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; move furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Utilize spray guns for large jobs.
  • Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications
  • Under direct supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for mixing, matching, and applying paint to various surfaces.
  • Completing touch-ups, and coordinating large painting projects.
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License.
  • Five to 10 years of progressive experience as a painter.
  • Thorough knowledge of tools, application methods, and standard trade safety practices.
  • Complete knowledge of the proper handling, mixing, and disposal of toxic and potentially hazardous materials.
  • Must have the physical ability to climb ladders, scaffolding and work in sometimes physically strenuous places and positions.
