Job description

ERM is hiring an experienced Construction Health and Safety Specialist to provide on-site support for our key medical device manufacturing client in North Haven, CT. In this critical role, you will be responsible for providing on-site observation of construction activities from an EHS perspective, ensuring health and safety compliance with applicable regulations and existing company standards, and contributing to an environment where employee health and safety are preserved. You will be present during all site activities and responsible for all health and safety activities, and the delegation of duties to any other project team members. This is a part-time (3-4 days per week), limited-term role for a duration of 23 months.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in regular planning meetings with engineering, general contractor, and sub-contractors
  • Anticipate EHS risk associated with upcoming phases of construction, then work with contractors to develop safe work plans
  • Crane/rigging, work from heights, electrical safety, hot work, etc
  • Review and provide feedback for daily JSAs
  • Conduct regular inspections/gembas of construction areas
  • Identify how different stages of construction may impact facility operations
  • Plan safe traffic patterns for PIT and pedestrian traffic (and outdoor vehicle traffic) around the construction area
  • Determine appropriate PPE and safety requirements for employees visiting the construction site
  • Create communications for employees who will be impacted by construction and may need to abide by changing safety rules, traffic patterns, etc

Manufacturing Equipment Safety:
  • Ability to assess manufacturing equipment compared to industry and internal MDT EHS requirements, during design and validation
  • Assist operations and engineering with JSAs, ergonomic assessments, lo/to procedure, etc., for new and relocated manufacturing equipment
  • Review and approve safety plans for rigging/installation of new and relocated equipment

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, safety, or occupational health and safety, or a related degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of on-site experience in construction-specific project health & safety.
  • Certification in the field: CHST, ASP, and/or CSP are preferred.
  • Manufacturing or medical device project experience is highly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry and construction standards.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including implementing strict Health and Safety protocols.
  • Completed training and certifications for OSHA 30-hour construction, confined space entry training, and fall protection/prevention training preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to multitask, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide excellent project delivery and client service, quality on project deliverables, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors.

Pay Transparency:
For the Construction Safety Specialist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $103,800-$130,990, $49.90/hr - $62.97/hr USD, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).

*Benefits Eligibility is limited to Regular employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week.
