Job description

DUTIES

BorgWarner PDS (USA) Inc. seeks a Mechanical Staff Engineer based out of our office at 3800 Automation Ave, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position does not require travel.

Mechanical design of Hybrid/Electric Onboard Charger and DC/DC Converter systems. Design mechanical components in compliance with the BorgWarner Lessons Learned and Best Practices. Design product and components to meet customer specifications. Design connectors and bus bars for power electronics including PCB interconnects. Design liquid cooling heat sink for power electronics. Perform mechanical analysis and verification for vibration, thermal shock, IPK ratings, thermal performance, GD&T tolerance stack up, and DFMEA. Work with manufacturing to ensure design for manufacturing (DFM). Work with electrical engineering team to define and package PCBs, transformers, and other components. Work with CAE engineer to draft and update 2D drawings and 3D models. Work with component suppliers to ensure components meet design requirements. Knowledge of thermal management for power electronics. Document design as needed and required. Develop and interface with supply base in support of program needs and purchasing initiatives. Follow a structured problem-solving approach to resolve issues.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering and 60 months of experience in job offered or other related mechanical hardware design position.
  • Experience with automotive environmental and durability requirements;
  • Experience with mechanical design / analysis for automotive-based power electronics;
  • Experience using CAD applications, including NX;
  • Experience with analysis tools
