Job description

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Database Engineer II is responsible for the overall development, testing and move to production of database products built in a cloud environment. 

  • Designs and creates moderately complex data models, develops and implements data products to support business needs Analyzes and determines informational needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements and data output and reporting capabilities.
  • Defines logical attributes and inter-relationships and designs data structures to accommodate business needs.
  • Tests designed applications utilizing database management software or general programming software.
  • Gathers system metrics pertaining to the running of data products to identify and resolve problems; determines and develops performance enhancements with measurable benchmarks.
  • Works with DBA and Productions Services staff to monitor the running of data products to identify and resolve problems; continues performance enhancement with measurable benchmarks.
  • Owns the design/modeling portion of data projects through the all-project stages, preparing a technical design that reflects business requirements and is consistent with IT Strategy and overall IT Architecture.
  • Evaluate new technologies and develop project proposals for new IT services, including pilots and production applications and services.
  • Works under minimal supervision with latitude for independent judgment.
  • May consult with senior peers on certain projects.
  • Mentors junior Database Engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field 
  • Minimum 3 years of Data Management experience proposing, documenting technology solutions and development experience with a focus on database architecture and data integration.
  • 5+ years of expertise working with Data in a hands-on, developer role with advanced engineering principles and analytics development
  • Fluent in SQL (any flavor), having served in various capacities within design, development and deployment of data warehouses or relational/analytical/multi-dimensional data marts
  • Familiar with Virtual Data Warehousing or use of Snowflake DWaaS
  • Relational Database Management Systems and expert SQL skills. Extract/Load/Transform (ELT) development skills.
  • Experience with cloud migrations is desirable.
  • Experience building data pipelines on Azure following best practices in Cloud deployments
  • Demonstrated ability to debug complex data issues while working on very large data sets with billions of records
  • Proven ability to work with business and technical audiences, on business requirement meetings, technical white boarding exercises, and SQL coding/debugging sessions
  • Ability to take the initiative to pursue assignments, responsibilities, and intake requests to a logical and final solution and to employ System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) standards is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
