Key responsibilities

Job description

Our client, a 30+ year old, PE-backed manufacturing company in Scottsdale, is hiring a Plant Controller to lead site-level accounting and finance during an exciting period of growth and transformation. This is a true ground-floor opportunity โ€” the company is rolling out SAP Business One, Planful (FP&A), and Tipalti (AP automation), and building out reconciliation and cycle count processes from the ground up as it professionalizes and targets doubling in size over the next three years.

Why This Role

  • Join a finance team implementing new systems and processes company-wide, not stepping into a static, fully mature function.
  • Act as the financial business partner to site leadership โ€” a role that hasn't existed in this form before, giving you the chance to establish the finance voice at the plant level.
  • Collaborative PE backing โ€” investing in systems, tools, and people rather than squeezing the business.
  • A newly hired VP of Sales is actively driving expansion beyond the company's historical word-of-mouth growth, with the business targeting 2x size in three years.

What You'll Do

  • Direct the accounting and financial affairs of the site, ensuring accurate financial statements, timely transaction processing, and strong internal controls
  • Lead month-end and year-end close
  • Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, including consolidated P&Ls and balance sheets to corporate
  • Build out internal reporting and site-level FP&A โ€” an area that's been underdeveloped and represents a major opportunity
  • Partner with the site leader on financial and operational recommendations
  • Manage the capital expenditure process, including analysis for significant projects ahead of leadership/board submittal
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations
  • Provide guidance and training to accounting staff (Controller will oversee one Staff Accountant)

What We're Looking For

  • Manufacturing accounting background required
  • ~7โ€“10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable operating in a small, close-knit team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to build credibility and "earn a seat at the table" with site leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience)
  • CPA and public accounting background are a plus, not required
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and ERP/general ledger systems
  • Strong Excel skills

The Details

  • Reports to: Corporate Controller (site Controller does not report directly to the CFO)
  • Team: Controller + 1 Staff Accountant
  • Work model: Onsite, especially in the first months, given the ERP rollout and team-building needs
  • Start timing: Ideally within the next 3 months to be part of the SAP Business One implementation
  • Interview process: Initial screen โ†’ Site Leader interview โ†’ Corporate Controller interview โ†’ Final interview with CFO

Interested candidates with manufacturing accounting experience who are ready for a high-visibility Controller role are encouraged to apply.
