Position Summary

The Facility Engineer will be responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the stadium while supporting live events. Areas of responsibility include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, painting, fleet/vehicle maintenance, elevators, concrete, carpentry, mechanical and building systems, and supporting other departments as assigned.

This role pays an hourly rate of $35.00-$39.56

This position will remain open until July 24, 2026.

About the Venue

Opened in September 2022, Snapdragon Stadium is a 35,000-seat multipurpose venue that serves as the home for San Diego State University Football (SDSU), San Diego Wave FC (NWSL Soccer), San Diego FC (MLS Soccer), major concerts and festivals, professional and amateur sports, motorsports, international soccer, entertainment events, and private special events. Responsibilities
  • Assist in all services and activities involved in the maintenance of the facility, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment.
  • Repair and rebuild various items such as motors, compressors, and ice machines.
  • Follow the preventive maintenance program, energy management program, and standard operating procedures for all machinery and equipment.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks such as re-lamping and replacing ceiling tiles, filters, and belts as required.
  • Record and log all work performed, complete work order slips, and compile all required reports in a timely and complete manner.
  • Assist other Operation Department divisions to expedite event conversions as needed.
  • Promote a safe working environment for all employees by following the life safety and emergency program as needed.
  • Read and interpret performance charts and control panels to evaluate the efficiency of each system.
  • Respond to routine, precautionary, and emergency alarms from building automation and life safety systems.
  • Maintains walls (interior and exterior) of the entire complex, including all drywall repairs, sanding, and repainting.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Maintain inventory of paint and supplies.
  • Maintain superior appearance and working condition of all MEP systems assigned to the Engineering Department.
  • Proactively search for opportunities to improve the physical facility, including identifying problems or deficient areas, developing solutions, and recommending workflow efficiencies.
  • Proactively recommend opportunities to improve current facility operations, protocols, processes, and best practices. This includes suggestions on how work is scheduled and sequenced based on facility use and non-use, budget reduction and savings opportunities, safety suggestions, etc.
  • Successfully troubleshoots unplanned challenges, including assisting emergency authorities in a calm demeanor in situations.
  • Oversee/Manage contractors for various projects, reporting information, maintaining detailed notes to advise on best practices, next steps or necessary services.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2-3+ years of full-time experience at a facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some technical support school or advanced electrical or refrigeration courses is preferred.
  • Understand the methods, principles, and practices required for the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Familiar with operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.
  • Knowledge in general techniques in plumbing, electrical wiring, and ventilating systems to be able to assist the HVAC and Electrical technicians as needed.
  • Knowledge of building management system control that monitors and operates building environmental, lighting, and life safety systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of door hardware, locks, key machines, door closers, etc.
  • Possess any licenses, certificates, or training required by local, state, or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility. Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other related materials.
  • Ability to follow and adhere to all safety precautions, building codes, rules, regulations, risk management, and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, scrubbing machines, or other light power-driven equipment.
  • Ability to operate monitoring controls and a personal computer (light use) using the 24/7 Work Order System Windows and Microsoft Office software e-mail.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma philosophies and the 5S system is a plus.
  • Follow explicit oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
  • Knowledge and prior use of 24/7 software is a plus
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
