What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Stack Testing Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stack Testing Technician, you need a solid understanding of environmental science, air sampling methods, and relevant EPA regulations, typically supported by a science degree or equivalent technical training. Familiarity with stack testing equipment, data logging systems, and certifications such as Source Evaluation Society (SES) accreditation are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork distinguish top performers in this field. These skills ensure accurate emission measurements, regulatory compliance, and reliable reporting for environmental protection.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in stack testing, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in stack testing often encounter challenges related to variable weather conditions, strict regulatory requirements, and the need for precise data collection. Working at elevated heights and handling sensitive equipment also require adherence to stringent safety protocols. To address these challenges, teams typically undergo thorough safety training, use specialized monitoring instruments, and maintain clear communication with other environmental and engineering staff to ensure accurate results and regulatory compliance.

What is stack testing?

Stack testing refers to the process of measuring the emissions released from industrial stacks or chimneys to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. It involves collecting and analyzing samples of gases and particulates emitted during industrial processes. The results help determine if a facility is meeting air quality standards and can identify areas for improvement. Stack testing is typically required by regulatory agencies to monitor pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter.

What is the difference between Stack Testing vs Environmental Technician?

Network Engineer

Stack Infrastructure (Stack) provides digital infrastructure to scale the world's most innovative companies. We are an award-winning industry leader in building, owning, and operating highly efficient, cost-effective wholesale, colocation, and cloud data centers. Each of our national facilities meets or exceeds the highest industry standards in all operational categories of availability, security, connectivity, and physical resilience.

Stack offers the scale and geographic reach that rapidly growing hyperscale and enterprise companies need. The world runs on data. Data runs on Stack.

The position: At Stack, the Network Engineer will deploy, monitor, upgrade, and support operational technology services and corporate networks. The position requires expertise in operating highly available, secure, and scalable networks. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, implement, and maintain the organization's local and wide area networks and other networking components.
  • Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks or issues, and proactively implement solutions to optimize network performance and ensure high availability.
  • Implement and manage monitoring tools to oversee system performance, identify issues, and implement necessary measures to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct regular system backups, audits, and testing to ensure business continuity.
  • Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for escalated network and system-related issues.
  • Investigate and resolve complex network problems, collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis of incidents and develop preventive measures to minimize future occurrences.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry best practices, applying them to enhance network performance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Prepare regular reports on network performance, security incidents, and other relevant metrics.
  • On-call availability may be required to respond to emergency situations.

  • 5-7 years' experience as a network engineer in an enterprise or data center setting.
  • 5+ years' experience with Cisco and/or Juniper and/or Arista networking.
  • 5+ years' experience with Palo Alto experience.
  • Proficiency with code, and the ability to do scripting or coding in at least one popular language (Bash, python, Ruby, etc).
  • Certifications in one or more disciplines are preferred: CCIP and/or JNCIP are a plus
  • Data center experience a plus.

This might be right for you if:
