What is a Stack Tester job?

A Stack Tester is responsible for conducting emissions testing on industrial stacks to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. They collect air samples, operate testing equipment, and analyze emissions data. The role involves working outdoors, traveling to various sites, and following strict safety protocols. Stack Testers help industries meet air quality standards and regulatory requirements set by agencies like the EPA.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Stack Tester position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stack Tester, you need a solid understanding of emissions testing protocols, environmental science, and analytical data collection, often supported by relevant technical training or certifications such as EPA Method 5 or NIOSH courses. Proficiency with stack sampling equipment, gas analyzers, and software for data logging and reporting is essential. Strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and effective communication help Stack Testers succeed, especially when working outdoors or as part of a team at industrial sites. These abilities ensure accurate emissions measurements, regulatory compliance, and the safe execution of testing procedures.

What are the typical daily responsibilities and work conditions for a Stack Tester?

Stack Testers spend much of their day collecting air samples from emission sources like smokestacks at industrial facilities using specialized equipment, often in outdoor or high-elevation environments. The role involves setting up, calibrating, and operating monitoring instruments, accurately recording data onsite, and later preparing detailed reports for compliance with environmental regulations. You may work in varying weather conditions and sometimes at significant heights or within safety-restricted zones, so adherence to safety procedures is critical. Work schedules can be irregular due to the need to conduct tests during plant downtime or according to regulatory requirements, and Stack Testers frequently collaborate with plant operators, environmental engineers, and regulatory officials. This role is ideal for those who enjoy hands-on technical work, troubleshooting, and contributing to environmental protection.

Senior Full Stack Engineer

Basata

Tempe, AZ • On-site

Full-time

Job description

About Basata
Location: Tempe, Arizona (in-office) or San Francisco (in-office)
At Basata, we're rethinking about the way healthcare practices get work done. Our AI-powered tools help automate the repetitive, time consuming tasks that bog teams down, so staff can spend less time on admin and more time with patients.
We're a small, fast-moving team that loves building smart systems and simple, intuitive experiences. If you're someone who gets excited about early-stage energy, designing better ways to work, and fixing what's broken in healthcare, we'd love to connect.
About the Role
We're looking for a standout Senior Full-Stack Engineer to help build our AI-powered software, used every day by clinic staff and administrators. You'll work across the stack, use scalable design patterns and best practices, and create delightful, user-friendly experiences in a space that's technically complex but rooted in human impact.
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, high-quality features across the entire stack, from our React/TypeScript frontend to our Java/Spring Boot backend and Python for our AI/ML services.
  • Collaborate closely with the CTO on key architectural decisions, ensuring our systems are robust, scalable, and built for the long term.
  • Contribute to and improve our cloud infrastructure and our CI/CD pipelines to ensure a fast, reliable development and release cycle.
  • Partner with product and design stakeholders to translate complex healthcare workflows into simple, intuitive, and delightful user experiences.
  • Champion software quality by implementing comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, E2E) and promoting development best practices across the team.
  • Write clear, maintainable documentation for code, architecture, and processes to set the standard for future engineering hires.
  • Contribute to product and UX thinking-actively shaping what gets built, not just how.

What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of professional experience building and shipping production-grade, full-stack web applications. Staff-level candidates will have 10+ years of experience with a track record of technical leadership.
  • Hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining LLM-based agentic applications in production is essential.
  • Deep expertise in backend development using Java and the Spring Boot framework.
  • Strong proficiency with modern frontend development using React and TypeScript.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deploying applications to modern cloud environments.

Why Join Basata?
  • Drive real impact. Your work will help clinics run more smoothly and ensure patients get the care they need-faster and with fewer headaches.
  • Shape something meaningful. From early product decisions to UI details, you'll play a big role in crafting both the code and the overall user experience.
  • High ownership. Join a team where you're trusted to lead, build, think critically, and bring ideas to life.
  • Work with purpose. We're not here to throw more tech at the wall, we're solving real problems in healthcare with tools that people rely on every day.

Our Core Values
  • Find a way: We own outcomes-no excuses, no shortcuts. When obstacles appear, we remove them. When the path isn't clear, we forge one. We take extreme ownership, stay scrappy, and do what it takes to get the job done. Whatever the challenge, we find a way.
  • Dream big: We refuse to accept that healthcare has to be broken. We dream boldly and act deliberately to build a future where healthcare organizations are free to focus on what truly matters: caring for people. We challenge what's possible, rethinking every mundane barrier standing in the way of better care. Our vision is ambitious-some might call it impossible-but we believe patients and providers deserve nothing less.
  • Obsess over the customer: We put our customers at the center of everything we do. We anticipate their needs, solve their problems, and design experiences that make them say, "Wow, I love this." Every decision starts with empathy: How will this help them? How will they use it? We make our customers the hero-while never compromising on ethics, privacy, or trust.
  • Always be learning: We're relentless about growth-our own and each other's. We challenge each other to level up, not just in skill, but in mindset, awareness, and character. We attract and empower "A" players, raise the bar, and multiply the impact of those around us. We're learning machines: always reading, asking, improving. Because when we grow as people, we become better teammates, leaders, and humans - that lifts the whole team with us.
  • Move Fast. Deliver Excellence. We prioritize rapid execution without sacrificing quality. Speed unlocks momentum-but only when paired with precision. We test relentlessly, ship often, and iterate fast to drive the results we want. Whether it's responding to a message or launching a product, we take bold action, measure impact, and refine quickly. Velocity is our competitive edge-excellence is our standard.
