Job description

Position: Senior AI Software Engineer

Location: New York, NY

Long Term Contract

Gen-AI Certification is highly desired

In this role, you will build core artificial intelligence capabilities, including virtual assistants in both voice and chat bot form and implementing the tools these agents interact with across our vast platform.

Responsibilities

    1. Collaborate closely with the product team to innovate and iterate on existing services and develop new ones, with a focus on enhancing the digital mortgage origination process.
    2. Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable software solutions that power Better's digital mortgage origination platform, utilizing a variety of technologies and programming languages.
    3. Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the digital mortgage origination process.
    4. Work closely with the compliance team to ensure that all software solutions adhere to strict state and federal regulations governing the mortgage industry.

Qualifications

    1. Master's degree in engineering preferred but not required 
    2. 5+ years of full stack app development experience.  
    3. Proficiency in NodeJS, Typescript, React, building REST APIs, and websockets is a must 
    4. Comfortable with cloud based microservice environment 
    5. Experience building agentic AI features including chatbots, voice agents using OpenAI SDK or equivalents 
    6. Experience utilizing RAGs or MCP servers, and implementing tools for LLMs to utilize 
    7. Excited to work in a fast paced, high growth startup environment. 
    8. A commitment to writing understandable, maintainable, and well tested software. 
    9. A desire to deliver and a strong sense of accountability for your work. 
    10. Experience building and enhancing telephony/dialer systems, preferably using Twilio or similar platforms is a plus.
