The General Construction Superintendent / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) oversees multiple federal design-build and design-bid-build construction projects, ensuring they are planned, executed, and completed safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with applicable codes and contract requirements. This dual-hat role combines full-site construction supervision with responsibility for enforcing safety requirements, implementing the project Accident Prevention Plan, and ensuring compliance with EM 385-1-1 and other federal construction safety standards. The Superintendent/SSHO leads and mentors subcontractors and field staff, manages project schedules and reports, and serves as the primary safety point of contact with government representatives.

• Lead one or more federal construction projects, overseeing overall planning, scheduling, code compliance, cost tracking, safety, and successful completion.
• Run multiple crews across various construction scopes, supervising craft workers and ensuring productivity, safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
• Coordinate with and direct supervisory personnel and subcontractors in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and sequencing construction activities to prevent delays.
• Coordinate and interface with supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and continuously improve construction methods.
• Order and manage procurement of tools, equipment, and materials to ensure timely delivery aligned with project schedules.
• Inspect work in progress to verify conformance with plans and specifications and to ensure construction schedules are maintained.
• Prepare, review, and adjust work schedules based on progress reports, materials usage, and cost information.
• Prepare thorough daily construction reports and maintain a detailed daily log of visitors, work performed, materials used, issues encountered, and problems resolved on the job site.
• Develop, update, and maintain project schedules, including a master schedule, 60-day look-ahead schedules, and two-week look-ahead schedules for assigned trades.
• Manage large general construction contracts in the approximate range of $500,000 to $15,000,000, ensuring contractual obligations are met.
• Direct and mentor subcontractors and on-site field staff, providing clear guidance, expectations, and performance feedback.
• Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling issues, and communicate significant matters to project and corporate leadership as appropriate.
• Ensure project rules, procedures, and programs are consistently followed, including those related to safety, attendance, and workplace behavior standards.
• Perform weekly safety meetings, daily safety inspections, and toolbox talks to reinforce safety culture and regulatory compliance.
• Enforce site safety requirements, implement the project Accident Prevention Plan, and ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 and other applicable safety regulations.
• Identify, correct, and document safety hazards and serve as the primary safety point of contact with government and contract representatives.
• Ensure all required federal, state, local, site, and contract reports are completed accurately and filed in a timely manner with operations, contract, or government staff.
• Confers with labor representatives and supervisory personnel to address complaints and grievances within the workforce and maintain effective working relationships.
• Confers with owners and owner’s representatives to communicate project progress, address concerns, and maintain client satisfaction.
• May direct workers involved in major maintenance or reconditioning projects for existing installations, as required.
• Perform work safely and effectively, following oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment use guidelines, and company policies.
• Use project management software and reporting tools to track progress, document activities, and support decision-making.
• Carry out other related duties as assigned to support successful project delivery and a safe, compliant work environment.

• 10+ years of general construction supervisory experience in the federal sector, with some commercial sector experience considered.
• Demonstrated ability to run multiple crews across various construction scopes and manage complex field operations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of general construction practices, including renovations, new construction, site development, and excavation.
• Strong knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings, and other technical documents.
• Proven ability to efficiently supervise, direct, and evaluate craft performance in a field construction environment.
• Ability to perform work safely and effectively, understanding and following oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment use guidelines, and company policies.
• OSHA 30-hour construction safety certification (minimum requirement).
• Experience with federal construction safety standards, including EM 385-1-1 and NAVFAC-related requirements.
• Proficiency in project management software such as RMS, Procore, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Project.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DISCO Secret Clearance or higher, as required, and to obtain access to military installations.
• Capability to manage large general construction contracts in the approximate range of $500,000 to $15,000,000.
• Strong relationship-building skills with clients, project partners, and on-site personnel.
• Clear and effective communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to and work at various project locations with varying site conditions.
• Business management acumen with strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
• Ability to work at different locations and adapt to varying site and environmental conditions.

• Experience with secure or SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) projects is a plus.
• Experience on secure federal projects and military installations is highly beneficial.
• Strong team-building skills and the ability to mentor and develop subcontractors and field staff.
• Experience coordinating with government inspectors and contract representatives on federal construction projects.
• Ability to plan labor needs, material quantities, and equipment requirements to support schedule commitments.
• Experience preparing detailed daily construction reports and maintaining accurate project documentation.
• Ability to uphold and promote workplace behavior standards aligned with non-harassment and nondiscrimination policies.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills in resolving construction challenges and workforce issues.
• Experience in both design-build (DB) and design-bid-build (DBB) federal construction project delivery methods.

This role is based on a federal military installation environment, including work on and around Fort Dix and similar bases. The Superintendent/SSHO works primarily on active construction sites, where conditions can vary by location and project phase, including outdoor work, exposure to changing weather, and proximity to heavy equipment and ongoing construction activities. The position requires frequent site walks, field inspections, and direct interaction with crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and government representatives. Work hours generally follow standard construction schedules, with additional time as needed to meet project milestones and address urgent site issues. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety protocols, federal and military installation requirements, and secure access procedures. Professional work attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are expected in accordance with site safety policies and project-specific requirements.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lakehurst, NJ.

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
