What is an SRP apprenticeship?

An SRP Apprenticeship is a structured training program offered by Salt River Project (SRP), one of Arizona’s largest utility companies, that combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction to prepare individuals for skilled careers in the utility industry. Apprentices learn from experienced professionals while gaining hands-on experience in areas like electrical work, power plant operation, or maintenance. These paid programs usually last several years and often lead to full-time employment upon successful completion. Apprenticeships with SRP are highly competitive and provide a solid pathway to a stable, well-paying career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SRP apprentice?

To thrive as an SRP Apprentice, you need a solid understanding of basic electrical or mechanical principles, strong math skills, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with tools like multimeters, hand and power tools, and safety protocols, as well as completion of OSHA training or related certifications, is often required. Reliability, a willingness to learn, teamwork, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this apprenticeship. These skills and qualities ensure apprentices can safely learn and succeed in technical tasks, contributing to efficient power generation and distribution operations.

What types of hands-on training and mentorship can I expect during an SRP apprenticeship?

During an SRP Apprenticeship, you will participate in hands-on training alongside experienced professionals in your chosen field, such as electrical, mechanical, or power generation. Apprentices typically rotate through various departments to gain exposure to different aspects of SRP’s operations. You will be paired with mentors who provide guidance, feedback, and support as you develop technical skills and safety practices. This collaborative environment helps you build confidence and prepares you for a full-time role upon completion of the program.
