We are seeking a Senior Software Automation Testing Engineer to join our team and support our client in Ashburn, VA. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in end-to-end software testing, automation framework development, and Python-based engineering to help improve application reliability and delivery quality. This role is well suited for a technically driven professional who can build internal tools, strengthen automated testing capabilities, and work across teams to deliver scalable, efficient testing solutions in an Agile environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure Python-based applications that support testing and automation objectives.
  • Partner with UI, services, API, and systems engineering teams to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Build internal automation tools and workflows that improve team collaboration, streamline repetitive tasks, and support defect identification.
  • Take ownership of the automated testing codebase and support its ongoing enhancement and maintenance.
  • Develop automation test scripts and execute regression, functional, and system testing activities.
  • Validate results and prepare test summaries, defect reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Generate test data and perform data validation to support comprehensive testing efforts.
  • Test data interface messaging using JSON and XML message structures.
  • Develop SQL and Unix-based scripts to support test data preparation and test harness automation.
Work Experience and Job Skills:
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in software testing, automation engineering, or related technical work is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field is required.
  • Strong understanding of modern Python 3.8+ programming.
  • Experience with Python web frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
  • Strong background in software testing, including testing REST APIs and end-to-end workflows.
  • Experience working in AWS cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in automating repetitive tasks and improving engineering efficiency.
  • Familiarity with Python testing frameworks such as pytest or unittest.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Locust.
  • Knowledge of version control systems and CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Harness, or Jenkins.
  • Experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL databases and strong SQL skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of strict degree requirements, based on client standards.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
  • Relevant certifications in software testing, cloud platforms, automation, or DevOps are a plus.
  • Additional technical certifications may be considered based on program needs.
Communication Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document findings, explain defects, and collaborate across technical teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across varying technical skill levels.
Clearance Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust position and favorable suitability determination based on a CBP background investigation is required.
Travel:
  • This is a hybrid position based in Ashburn, VA, with onsite support expected one to two days per week and additional onsite presence as required by mission needs.
  • Mainly a routine office environment.
  • May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Flexible in working extended hours.
