The Senior Analyst, Risk Intelligence is responsible for translating risk insight into practical decision support to help Markel's decentralized leadership remain within established guardrails while anticipating emerging threats. This role is responsible for executing the technical work that connects emerging risk, market intelligence, and stress and scenario work with Markel's business planning and global capital modeling. The goal is to make risk foresight routine, reliable, and decision-ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Intelligence Production: Support the Quarterly Markel Intelligence Report, synthesizing industry trends, macro drivers, and internal data and perspectives into concise summaries for the Board.
  • Horizon Scanning & AI Integration:Help develop andoperatean "always-on" scanning rhythm that combines humanexpertisewith agentic AI to separate noise from material threatsand proactively communicate actionable insights.
  • Stress & Scenario Analysis: Assist with the design and execution of stress scenarios, parameterizing impacts that feed into both the ORSA(Markel Group and Markel Insurance)and CISSA (Bermuda) filings.
  • Key Risk Indicators (KRIs): Track key risk indicators to monitor exposure against defined risk appetites.
  • Leadership Input: Support the Director in designing andfacilitatingscenario workshops, interviews,surveysand tabletop exercises withunderwriting and other leaders across the organization.
  • Cross-Functional Engagement: Support the Director in partnering with Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, and Capital Modeling teams to integrate risk intelligence into portfolio management, business planning, and decision-making.
  • Agile Project Execution: Deliver on quarterly milestones, managing competing priorities to ensure rapid incident response and "decision-ready" briefs for senior leaders.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Insurance Background:3-5years of experience in insurance risk, actuarial, or strategy,or other analyticalroles.
  • Exceptional Communication:Ability to produce high-caliber, concise written materials for executive forums and translate technical uncertainty into clear business narratives.
  • Attention to Detail:Meticulous approach to quality control, ensuring that exposure data isaccurateand that "lead time" from signal to approved action is minimized.
  • Technical Proficiency:Skilled in analytics (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python),Powerpoint, andvisualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Project Management & Pace:Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder information gathering while meeting rigorous deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Education & Certification

  • Education:Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or risk-related discipline (Finance, Economics, Mathematics, etc.) isrequired.
  • Certifications:Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, FRM, or Actuarial credentials, or progress toward them are highly preferred.

Pay information:

Base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors, such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary for the Senior Analyst, Risk Intelligenceposition is $92,880-$127,710 with 15% bonus potential.
