We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior RF Engineer to join our team of innovative engineers who design and develop high-quality hardware and software systems. In this role, you will collaborate with a cross-functional team to design, fabricate, test, and integrate electronics, with a focus on RF-specific components such as amplifiers, filters, and antennas. As a Senior RF Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of these systems and subsystems, including part selection, simulation, schematic capture, layout design, and prototype fabrication. You will also play a key role in troubleshooting and conducting initial technical verification of your designs.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. What You'll Do:
  • Test and evaluate a wide variety of antennas, amplifiers, filters and other RF systems.
  • Design and develop a wide variety of antenna and antenna-related RF components.
  • Derive antenna requirements and specifications from customer defined use cases.
  • Describe initial concept trade-offs and development paths.
  • Prepare and deliver in-house and customer presentations.
  • Provide written technical proposal and cost/schedule estimating.
  • Be responsible for the hands-on design and realization of antennas, RF circuits, and components.
  • Investigate new technologies and applications for electrically small antennas.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to provide system compatible RF solutions.
  • Have the aptitude to mentor and guide more junior engineers and technicians in the design, build, and test phases of projects and programs.
  • Guide the successful completion of RF related solutions and may function in a project leadership role.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Interact with external personnel on technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Interface effectively with people at all levels and from various areas, seek out responsibilities and opportunities to contribute, and regularly meets with customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Skills and Education
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Top Secret security clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of RF engineering core concepts and antenna theory.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to create presentations and lead group discussions.
  • Experience with RF simulation tools and hardware fabrication.
  • Skills to effectively contribute to successful producibility of designs and to cost, budget, and schedule control.
  • Experience with lab equipment, including power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and apply problem-solving skills to overcome technical challenges.

Preferred Skills and Education
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience with design of electrically small antennas and a broad range of RF components (couplers of various types, amplifiers, filters, mixers)
  • Experience with microstrip filter design desired.
  • Experience using CST Studio software for design, analysis, and optimization of RF systems and components.
  • Experience with antenna range measurements and providing analysis of said measurements.
  • Experience and proficiency in programming, data manipulation, and data visualization in MATLAB is desired.
  • Must be able to create effective test plans; schedule and execute measurements at internal and external facilities; perform measurement analysis and troubleshooting.
  • The ability to apply technical expertise in RF engineering and to leverage knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Soldering and hands-on fabrication of antennas/circuit boards.
