Process Engineer I

Plymouth Tube is seeking a motivated Processย Engineer to support continuous improvement and enhance the performance of our manufacturing operations. In this role, you'll lead process optimization, equipment improvement projects, and cross-functional initiatives that improve quality, efficiency, and productivity. Position Summary

Responsible for managing the design, planning, directing, and coordinating activities relating to the construction, modification, installation and maintenance of process equipment within value streams by performing the following duties personally or through shop floor leadership. The primary focus of this position is to improve the physical performance and capability of the products produced through metallurgical analyses, raw material selection/optimization, and furnace/heat treat enhancements.

Essential Responsibilities

Includes the following (other duties may be assigned):
โ€ขEstablishes, verifies, and maintains standard work instructions as they relate to the operation and setup equipment.
โ€ขResearches world class manufacturing practices and coordinates with management, shop floor leadership, and production operators on how to best incorporate them.
โ€ขWorks closely with production personnel to troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day issues with an emphasis on continuous improvements of equipment, procedures, and operating metrics.
โ€ขDevelops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing processes and methods through the application of techniques such as Process Control Plans, Capability Studies, Value Stream Maps, Poka-Yoke devices, 8D problem solving, Standard Visual Work, etc.
โ€ขAnalyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
โ€ขPerforms layout and design work using CAD.
โ€ขConfers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
โ€ขManages process and equipment improvement projects. Project management may include capital expenditure justification, vendor selection, contractor supervision, expense tracking, and resource coordination.
โ€ขApplies 80/20 thinking to identify critical few opportunities.
โ€ขConducts feasibility studies for new products and assists in the APQP process.
โ€ขUse and create engineering drawings to translate what will be required to make finished parts.
โ€ขDevelop and maintain a database of equipment capabilities.
โ€ขLeads problem solving events.
โ€ขTrains production personnel in world class manufacturing techniques, using JIT methodology.
โ€ขDirects and establishes the maintenance of weld mill equipment and coordinates requirements for new designs, modifications, and upgrades to new technologies.
โ€ขWorks closely with the Maintenance department regarding predictive and preventive maintenance activities related to the up keep of equipment.
โ€ขCoordinates and directs contractor activities as they relate to equipment modifications, upgrades, and replacement.
โ€ขTests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications.
โ€ขDevelops trouble-shooting guidelines.ย

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical or related Engineering field from four-year college or university and/or equivalent work experience. Must have demonstrated experience utilizing the team approach. Must have strong project management skills, the ability to interpret product designs for manufacturability, solid problem-solving skills including the ability to define root cause and to take permanent corrective action. Experience must include the ability to demonstrate the following:
a background in justification preparation (ROI, NPV).
development and implementation of error-proofing systems.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software (CAD); Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word), Solid Works.
