Job description

Job Summary and Qualifications

This position is a senior principal level architect position who will report directly to the Director of Software Architecture, Clinical Development & Innovation. This candidate will have strong experience in software architecture and public cloud architectures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong development background as well as design and development experience. In addition, this candidate will also be expected to establish and drive adoption of best practices for architectural and coding patterns, DevOps practices and framework usage. 

A successful candidate will demonstrate strong understanding of software patterns, software modeling, secure programming principles, test-driven development or another unit testing methodology, and code standards compliance. In addition, this candidate will have a history of technical leadership in small to medium multi-role teams. This position requires a candidate who can collaborate with product managers and designers to ensure feasibility of product direction. This candidate must be able to architect and design software products, as well as lead the development and implementation of solutions with minimal supervision. 

This candidate will have a track record of participation in successful projects in a fast-paced, mixed team (consultant and employee) environment. In addition, the applicant must be willing to mentor developers in software development and architectural practices. 

The Senior Principal Architect will be required to provide on-going technical support for both existing and new applications. The applicant will provide second level support for existing applications within the group, including being part of an after-hours on call rotation. 

The Senior Principal Architect must be a highly motivated self-starter, an enthusiastic learner, and must be committed to delivering high quality solutions within scheduled timelines. 

  • Closely collaborates with team members to successfully execute development initiatives using Agile practices and principles 
  • Contributes to a smooth CI/CD pipeline 
  • Leads efforts to architect, design, development, deploy, and support software systems 
  • Architects and designs robust, secure data integrations with other HCA or vendor systems 
  • Collaborates with product managers, stakeholders, and development team product architecture and technical design 
  • Provides technical leadership in large-scale development projects involving multiple areas outside of core team 
  • Collaborates with other technical teams across HCA ITG 
  • Designs fit-for-purpose products to ensure products align to the customer's strategic plans and technology road maps 
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of value-based decision making and Agile principles across teams 
  • Coaches team on existing system structure, constraints and deficiencies with product 
  • Shares knowledge and experience to contribute to growth of overall team capabilities 
  • Provides leadership in the deployment, change, configuration, management, administration and maintenance of deployment process and systems 
  • Focuses on customer satisfaction 
  • Rapidly prototypes and delivers just-in-time solutions 
  • Works in an environment with rapidly changing business requirements and priorities 
  • Demonstrates deep understanding and acts as a leader in the team’s continuous integration and continuous delivery automation pipeline 
What qualifications you will need:
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • Seven or more years of relevant experience

Other/Special Qualifications

  • Demonstration of and belief in the Agile mindset 
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure preferred 
  • Experience with Microservice architectures preferred 
  • Experience with iOS and Android mobile development platforms preferred 
  • Experience with CI/CD code and infrastructure pipeline deployment strongly preferred 
  • Seven or more years of engineering, delivering, and supporting production software products required 
  • Delivery of past software systems with documented value required 
  • Strong focus on delivering customer value required 
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analysis, and problem-solving abilities required 
  • Ability to engineer and build software through multiple languages and tools required 
  • Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to work with staff and business required 
  • Willingness to learn our business domain required
