Job description

The Senior Digital Designer, Web and Brand at Girls Who Code will work with the Marketing and Communications (MAC) team to help grow the brand's reach and awareness and to ensure our website is updated with blogs, campaigns, programs, and new pages. The Senior Digital Designer, Web and Brand will serve as the primary steward of the GWC brand for all graphics, internal and external, and maintain a strong external-facing website.ย 
Reporting to the VP, Marketing and Communications, they will design marketing materials, merchandise, and web pages for programs and marketing campaigns and the company website, reaching a diverse audience -- from students and families to community organizations and partners.
Responsibilities
  • Graphic Designย 

    • Create visually engaging and impactful graphics including presentation slides, flyers, social media graphics, programming logos, templates, merch, email graphics, and more.ย 

    • Design and conceptualize various PDF and web reports, balancing brand integrity with current industry trends to deliver captivating, effective, and relevant materials that amplify GWC's work and impact.

    • Use a keen eye for typography, current market factors, and color theory, and implement them into all assets.

    • Keep abreast of all accessibility standards and implement best practices into designs.

    • Take ownership of the organization's brand identity to ensure consistent application across all visual communications.

    • Oversee organization-wide usage of files to support graphic integrity and high-resolution presentation.

  • Website Content Management

    • Create and upload graphics to the organization's website.

    • Maintain accurate, consistent, and up-to-date site content across all pages.

    • Ensure all content follows brand voice, style guidelines, and SEO best practices.

    • Manage content workflows, including scheduling updates and coordinating approvals.

    • Update website navigation, landing pages, and product/service pages as needed.

    • Monitor GWC website for outdated or broken links and resolve issues promptly.

    • Design, upload and optimize assets to ensure fast website performance on desktop and mobile.

    • Work within CMS to manage layouts and modules.

    • Create campaign landing pages on Squarespace, or other plug and play platforms.

  • Video Editing and Animationย 

    • Produce and edit videos for web projects and social media to present the brand and its initiatives in a dynamic and relevant manner.

  • Website Quality Assurance

    • Perform content audits to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.

    • Test pages on multiple browsers and devices to ensure proper display.

    • Review content for accessibility and adherence to UX best practices.

  • Project Support

    • Assist with website redesigns, migrations, and large-scale content updates.

    • Maintain content calendars and project timelines.

    • Support digital marketing initiatives such as email campaigns and social media integration.

  • Teamwork and Workflowย 

    • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously from concept through delivery, working closely with team members in MAC and other departments to guarantee timely and successful execution.

    • Work across departments to gather content for the website.

    • Support marketing campaigns by building landing pages and updating promotional content.

  • Partner Collaborationย 

    • Develop and design materials for partner engagements that reflect both our brand and our partners' needs while maintaining brand consistency.

    • Consider partner graphic guidelines in asset creation to certify integrity of both partner and GWC brands.

  • Design Advisoryย 

    • Serve as a sounding board and expert on design matters, advising teams on best practices to enhance visual communication.ย 

    • Edit the creative efforts of other team members and serve as a final approver for all designs to guarantee brand integrity and overall quality.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in graphic design role, 2 years in website management
  • Extensive experience with Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Figma, and other design softwareย 
  • Understanding of multiple CMS platforms to manage website content
  • Ability to use Canva to produce easy-to-edit, professional-level templates ideal for cross-team collaboration
  • Adherence to brand guidelines while bringing artistic vision
  • Strong project management and prioritization skillsย 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Capacity to collaborate with non-designers to produce excellent work product
  • Expertise in translating complex ideas into easy-to-understand designs
  • An entrepreneurial mindset. Thrives in a dynamic environment with changing requirements
  • Knowledge of design and tech field trends
