Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced MS SQL Server Database Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize our database infrastructure. In this role, you will ensure the 24/7 availability, security, and performance of our SQL Server environments while partnering closely with development teams to refine schemas, optimize queries, and support solution design. You will also lead small- to medium-scale migration and upgrade efforts to keep our platforms current, reliable, and resilient.

Onsite in Lynchburg, VA at our secured facility. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate!
Your Day to Day as an MS SQL Server DBA:
  • Identify bottlenecks using DMVs, Extended Events, and Execution Plans.
  • Optimize complex queries, indexes, and server configurations to ensure peak throughput.
  • Support High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR) by implementing and managing mission-critical HA solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, and Log Shipping, and regularly testing and documents DR procedures.
  • Develop and maintain advanced PowerShell, .Net and T-SQL code to automate routine administration, monitoring, and deployments.
  • Implement a database security posture consistent with STIG requirements.
  • Provide expert code reviews for developers, assisting with schema design, stored procedure optimization, and ensuring code meets company standards.
  • Plan and execute SQL Server version upgrades, service pack applications, and data migrations with minimal downtime.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 3 years of dedicated experience as a SQL Server DBA in a professional work environment.
  • Deep understanding of SQL Server architecture (2016 through 2022+), including memory management, I/O, and concurrency.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expert-level use of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and familiarity with Visual Studio.
  • Experience with a heterogenous database platform environment (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgressSQL, IDMS).
  • Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment.

Pay: $65,000 - $103,000
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,000 and $103,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
