Job description

This role is for a hands-on developer with at least 10 years of experience in the financial services industry. This person works closely with business users to define and lead the implementation of applications and automated processes, including db schema design & implementation (SQL Server), service layer (C#) and user interface (vue.js). This person will be responsible for:

  • Working with the business to understand and distill business requirements and define application solutions
  • Full stack development, including database schema design
  • Delegating dev work to offshore resources when appropriate and reviewing their code
  • Troubleshooting C# / SQL application code should issues arise
  • Performing QA testing on new enhancements/fixes and leading the business through UAT testing
  • Making effective use of AI coding tools such as Cursor to accelerate development
  • Overall project management, including prioritization of requests from the business

The Core Applications Development team is led by the Executive Director of Core Application Development, reporting to the Software CTO. The team consists of two other onsite Senior Developers and a shared pool of four offshore Developers.

The person in this role must have a thorough understanding of fixed income, equity and credit derivative, and asset backed asset classes. This person has an established track record of working independently and as part of a team. This person must be able to communicate with business users on matters regarding investment analysis, risk management strategies, analytics strategies, and investment performance at a portfolio or position level. Project management and working with offshore resources will be critical to this person's success (the offshore team works in a "sandbox" Azure environment).

Troubleshooting and QA are important skills on any small development team, and this person will be expected to take ownership of their work and all related apps, proactively providing project management & some technical support, and generally keeping our client business stakeholders well informed and engaged.

The business knowledge and experience preferred for this position include:

  • Front office systems dealing with market data and order/trade allocation.
  • Middle office systems dealing with buying power, performance analyses and similar.
  • Familiarity with CLO, credit derivatives, bank debt, etc.
  • Experience with designing of data flows to and from vendor systems.
  • Experience with designing modular applications with reusable components.

Technical Experience:

  • 5+ years of C# web development in asset management / hedge fund / financial services settings (UI, services, business layer)
  • Interfacing with senior business users on software requirements and project flow
  • Delegation and managing of projects involving onshore and offshore resources
  • 5+ years of SQL Schema Design and Stored Procedures development (pref. SQL Server)
  • Proactive project management experience and a history of creativity and innovation
  • Excellent communication skills both with the users and with the technical team
  • Attention to detail and commitment to total quality, strong QA skills (both testing and managing the QA process).
  • Snowflake experience is beneficial, including data pipelines, transformations (dbt) and general familiarity with the platform
