Job Description:
The SQL Data Engineer will be responsible for investigating, remediating, migrating, and validating production data across enterprise-scale systems. This role focuses heavily on SQL Server, data migrations, ETL processes, XML data handling, and troubleshooting complex data integrity issues within mission-critical applications.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and resolve data integrity issues within large production databases.
  • Write and execute complex SQL queries across highly relational data models.
  • Develop validation scripts and reporting to identify impacted records and data anomalies.
  • Design, test, and execute data correction and remediation scripts.
  • Lead and support data migration initiatives, including schema mapping and transformation logic.
  • Perform ETL activities, data mapping, and data quality validation.
  • Analyze and reconstruct missing or corrupted data when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, and Engineering teams to understand application data flows.
  • Optimize database performance and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Maintain migration runbooks, playbooks, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and deployment planning.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 years of professional experience working with relational databases.
  • Expert-level SQL Server experience.
  • Advanced SQL skills including complex JOINs, CTEs, window functions, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
  • Experience writing and executing safe bulk UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE scripts in production environments.
  • Proven experience with data migration projects, schema mapping, transformation logic, and validation processes.
  • Experience working with XML data and querying XML within SQL environments.
  • Strong ETL and data quality validation experience.
  • Experience working with Git/GitHub and Jira.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate large, unfamiliar database schemas.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with limited documentation and guidance.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with data reconstruction and forensic data investigation.
  • Experience within tax, government, financial services, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with Azure SQL Managed Instance.
  • Exposure to VB.NET, ASP.NET, C#, Entity Framework, Dapper, or ADO.NET.
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Experience supporting SaaS or hosted application environments.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
