Job description

Work Schedule: Friday - Tuesday

Hours: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM; with ability to work overtime, different days/shifts for coverage, extra days, and holidays as needed.

Rate: $25.06/ hour (starting rate at 80% of the full rate)

Wage Progression:

  • 80% at hire: $25.06/ hour

  • 90% after 6 months: $28.20/ hour

  • 100% after 1 year: $31.33/ hour

This position follows a union wage progression scale. Employees advance to the full rate after one year of continuous service.

SUMMARY

Operate Boxmakers that form and seals empty boxes that are then transported to a caser. Responsible for the correct forming and bottom sealing of cases. Ensure the correct boxes are formed on the correct line. Works closely with Supervisors, Pure-Pack Operator, Line Operator and the Warehouse Receiver. Communicates to the Production Supervisor any condition that prevents the manufacture of boxes to established standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Check the assembly, operation and setting of the machine of the start of operation or shift. Keeps the machine supplied with flat stock. Make minor adjustments as needed.
  • Operates walk behind pallet jack to transport flat stock from staging area to the area adjacent to each boxmaker. Keeps the Pallet Jack charged as necessary.
  • Ensures necessary flat stock is readily available to promote efficient operation.
  • Will operate more than one machine.
  • Adjust Boxmaker to the proper setting for each size box. Operates the boxmaker at the manufacturerโ€™s maximum recommended rate for the machine. Keeps record of downtime and reasons for being down. Ensure boxes are sealing properly. Keeps glue operation in control. Fill glue pot as necessary with correct glue. Checks for proper temperature and glue nozzle spray pattern.
  • Immediately notify the shift supervisor when your filler is unable to operate. This excludes product changeovers and other routine reasons for downtime.
  • Ensures the box being formed on a particular line is correct for the product being packaged on that line. Responsible for following all instructions provided by any Company authorized trainer.
  • Does other work as required such as policing work area and other task as directed by Supervision.
  • Must maintain good housekeeping and orderliness in your work area.
  • Assist the Line Operator during the operation and particularly during changeover. This requires traveling up and down a long (20 steps) flight of stairs approximately 4 to 6 times an hour.
  • Fills the Half Gallon Caser with flat stock as necessary.
  • Completes clean up card items daily and document where necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/ or management.
  • All employees are expected to support the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program by following food safety and quality procedures, maintaining hygiene and cleanliness, and reporting any concerns. Team members must understand their role in the SQF System, complete required training, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement to ensure safe, high-quality products.
