Job description

The Music Mission team owns Spotify's end to end proposition for music creators and the experiences they create for fans. The team is dedicated to building tools and services to enable creation, promotion, expression, and monetization at scale.

Spotify for Artists (S4A) is Spotify's flagship platform for artists and their teams, supporting over 650,000 monthly active users across web and mobile. It's where artists manage their presence on Spotify-exploring audience insights, promoting releases, customizing profiles, and growing their business through tools like Marquee, Showcase, and Discovery Mode.

As part of the Music Mission, this team operates across a broad technical landscape including client applications, backend systems, and large-scale data pipelines. You'll lead a team working at the intersection of product innovation and platform reliability, shaping experiences that directly impact Spotify's global creator community.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and grow a team of engineers across backend, client, and data disciplines, supporting multiple squads
  • Set clear technical and organizational direction across a complex, full-stack product area
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Insights, and Marketing to deliver impactful features for artists
  • Drive execution across multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring strong coordination and delivery
  • Translate ambiguity into clear priorities, helping teams navigate competing demands and inbound requests
  • Oversee the development of scalable systems that process and surface large volumes of artist data
  • Support critical platform operations and contribute to incident response readiness through team leadership
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives including AI-driven experiences and artist-focused product innovation
Who You Are
  • You have 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience in engineering leadership, including managing managers
  • You have led multiple teams or orgs simultaneously and are comfortable operating across a broad, multi-disciplinary technical surface
  • You are experienced in setting direction through other leaders, empowering them while holding a high bar for delivery and accountability
  • You know how to navigate organizational complexity and drive alignment across senior cross-functional stakeholders
  • You are skilled at turning ambiguity into clear strategy, priorities, and execution plans across multiple teams
  • You have a strong technical foundation and can engage in discussions across backend systems, client applications, and data platforms
  • You care deeply about building inclusive, high-performing teams and have a track record of developing managers and senior engineers
  • You are calm and structured in high-pressure situations, able to manage competing priorities and guide teams through critical decisions
  • You have experience operating in environments with high data scale and understand how to translate complex data into meaningful user experiences
  • You are motivated by building products that serve creators, artists, or similar user communities
Where You'll Be
  • This role is based in New York
  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home
The United States base range for this position is $203,410-$290,586 USD, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six-month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, paid flexible holidays, and paid sick leave. These ranges may be modified in the future.
