Job Summary/Primary Purpose: The Recreation Coordinator primarily supports the integration of a variety of recreational activities for members & guests - both individual and group. The position also provides general support to the department Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Sports and Recreation Manager with day-to-day department operations, communication, organization and follow-through to support effective sports and recreation programming and member services.
  • Develop and recommend to the manager recreational programming that supports the exposure to a wide variety of both individual and group activities for members and guests outside traditional Sports programming.
  • Assist with staff scheduling, gymnasium shift coverage needs, and communication of schedule updates to ensure appropriate department coverage.
  • Assist with planning, setup, implementation, and follow-up for open gym, special events, and recreation programs.
  • Assist with marketing needs for sports and recreation programs, leagues, camps, special events, announcements, and department initiatives in coordination with the marketing department and the Sports and Recreation Manager.
  • Maintain accurate department records, including participation statistics, KPIs, class attendance, program data, equipment maintenance tracking information, certification records, and other reports as requested.
  • Assist with the development, organization, review, and updating of the Sports and Recreation department SOPs, checklists, procedures, rules, schedules, and operational documents.
  • Assist with ordering supplies, equipment, printed materials, program resources, and other department needs while tracking related expenses, purchase requests, receipts, invoices, supply levels, and other budget-related items as directed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to members, guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have primary supervisory responsibilities but acts as an operational shift supervisor providing support, direction, and communication to assigned staff, instructors, officials, attendants, and volunteers during assigned shifts or when the Sports and Recreation Manager is absent.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of two years of experience in administration, recreation, sports programming, scheduling, customer service, program support, or a related field in a recreation center or similar facility is preferred.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  • Good communication skills including interpersonal skills.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team.
  • Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • General computer knowledge is required, with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using web-based systems such as Sling, Canva, or similar platforms preferred.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must support the mission of the Salvation Army and represent the Kroc Center in a professional and positive manner.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • CPR/AED/First aid certification or ability to attain within 90 days of hire is required.
  • Must successfully complete Safe From Harm training within 30 days.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision. Excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, set up and take down equipment, and assist with sports and recreation programs for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment is required. This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The majority of the workday will be in a mixed environment including offices, gymnasium, outdoor fields, and other program spaces. Portions of the primary work facility may be considered humid, while other locations such as the gymnasium, outdoor fields, and recreation spaces may be considered moderately loud in nature.
