Job description
The Director of Sport Science – Football is responsible for providing strategic leadership, integration, and oversight of sport science initiatives with the University of Georgia football program. This individual plays a key role in optimizing student-athlete health, performance, and recovery through data-informed practices, research translation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The position serves as a critical bridge between applied performance science, strength and conditioning, and other athletic health and performance services, supporting a holistic model of athlete development. The Director of Sport Science – Football will coordinate sports science technology systems (e.g., CatapultGPStracking system,DARI, Vald, Polar, etc…), create metrics reports, and communicate data analysis with relevantUGAAAstaff (sports medicine, athletic coaches, and strength & conditioning).
Knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies - Demonstrated experience in data analytics, athlete monitoring, and the use of performance technologies (e.g., Catapult,DARI, Polar,VALD, etc.).Strong understanding of interdisciplinary high-performance models and integrated sports medicine/performance team collaboration.Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.Skilled in tracking and analyzing athlete progress using computer-based charting systems and daily performance metrics.Capable of effectively counseling student-athletes on performance enhancement and recovery strategies.Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with individuals both within and outside the University, via phone, email, and in-person interactions.Maintain consistent and proactive communication with coaching staff for assigned teams.Foster strong working relationships with all staff and coaches in the facility, including the supervision and mentorship of assigned interns and students.Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and professional training environment.Able to work independently while managing multiple responsibilities and priorities.
Physical demands - Ability to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms regularly during the workday.Sit, speak clearly, and hear effectively in team meetings and communication settings.Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and assist student-athletes during weight training sessions.Possess close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision for safe supervision of the training environment.Tolerate variable noise levels, with moderate baseline noise and higher levels during peak facility usage.
Duties/responsibilities - Data analytics & reporting:Lead the design, implementation, and oversight of sports science systems to monitor athlete workload, performance, readiness, and recovery.Analyze and interpret data collected from practices and competitions.Develop algorithms to determine trends and predict outcomes.Creation and distribution of daily data reports for both team practice and competitions.Professional communication of data results with key stakeholders (sports medicine, coaches, strength & conditioning, etc.)Collaborate with strength and conditioning, athletic training, sports medicine, nutrition, coaching staff to integrate sports science into daily operations.Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of performance metrics (e.g.,GPS, force plates, wellness questionnaires) to inform individualized training and recovery strategies.Translate scientific research into practical applications to enhance performance and mitigate injury risk.Develop and maintain data dashboards and reporting tools for coaches, support staff, and administrators.Lead applied research initiatives in collaboration with academic departments and external partners.Manage and maintain the TeamWorksAMSdata analytics platform for football.Rehabilitation: Work closely with Sports Medicine personnel—including athletic trainers, physical therapists, and team physicians—to understand individual limitations and support rehabilitation plans aimed at returning student-athletes to full participation. Provide sports science data that will be used in development of rehabilitation plans for injured athletes.Collect, interpret, and communicate athlete performance and readiness data to athletic performance and coaching staff.Oversee technology integration and ongoing maintenance of performance monitoring systems for football.Remain current with emerging research and technologies related to athletic performance and recovery.

Daily distribution and collection ofGPStracking devices (application of appropriate equipment). Daily running and monitoring of live tracking during practice and competition.
Duties/responsibilities - Ensure compliance withNCAA,SEC, and institutional policies related to student-athlete health, safety, and data privacy.Supervise and mentor sports science staff, including interns and graduate assistants.Serve as a subject matter expert and liaison between the athletic department and academic/research collaborators.Contribute to educational programming and professional development for coaches and support staff on key sports science topics.
Duties/responsibilities - Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Associate Athletic Director – Health & Performance and Director of Sports Medicine – Football.
